Who is interested in being able to tow a trailer with the segway. We have developed a hitch along with trailers. We also have developed a universal adapter to allow someone to attach to a wagon you can buy at your local lawn and garden shop.So far all tests are looking good. We have been able to easily tow a small trailer with 500lbs in the trailer. We are in the final stages of testing and have a pat pending on the design and the hitch. The machine still functions normally. The difference being you have to remember the trailer is hooked up. You need to learn the do's and don'ts while towing a trailer. It does not effect the function of the machine while you just have the hitch on. Depending on what you are pulling it can effect your battery life. Just as the size of the rider effects battery life.I hope to put a web sight up and post photographs. If anyone is interested let me know.

I have a homemade hitch that I fashioned about two months ago. I have been using it to carry a wagon with tools, and also another wagon with kids in it. Mine does have its limitations, however (not the strongest as it's essentially connected through the steel plate on the bottom of the mat!), so I would be interested in possibly buying one of yours. Got pix?

I'm reallly interested in seeing photos or getting more information on this type of thing.
Thanks,

Willis,
Would your hitch be able to tow an unoccupied segway with an occupied segway? How might one attatche the "towee seg" to the "tower seg"? If you left the towed seg on would the regenerative power function materially impact the battery of the towing seg (compared to towing it with the power off)? Peter

Are you saying, tow an unoccupied segway from an occupied one while your gliding? Sounds cool in theory. I think someone could hook up something like a reciever to the front of the trailing seg to connect to the one in front, couldn't they?
This would be great for taking one with you for someone else to glide with you later. Or perhaps to get a longer ride than regular. By this I mean, like you said, charging the rear Seg while gliding and when the lead Seg runs out of juice switch positions with them to get a longer ride. But I think this has two problems. ONE... its the additonal cost of a second Segway, buying an extra set of batteries is way cheaper and TWO... I think that towing the second Seg would for one, not charge the second seg adequately enough and run the first Seg down quicker because of the resistance drag from the second Seg. What do you think?

I towed god1138's Segway at SegwayFest just by using my hand and holding onto the handle bar. At full speed, the towed Seg generates quite a bit of drag and it does eat up power of the towing Segway. You can feel it.
Later that night, RWC "charge shared" with me. My Segway was running red, while he was fully charged. So I leaned back against his out-stretched arm as he leaned forward and pushed me and my platform forward. (We got the idea from watching Doug Field doing the same to J.D. [I think?])

How about a trailer that also charges spare batteries.
The trailer would use only those components required to generate the charge. The gearing system would turn only the generator for the battery and would be connected to the wheels of the trailer.
I'm very interested in see your trailer. I'm most interested in a the hitch.
Any method of making the Segway move useful helps me justify the cost. With a good hitch system (and the proper modifications to my push lawn mower) my Segway could save me the $2,500 cost of a riding lawn mower.
