This was on TV quite a while ago but I just remembered to post it up here;
On the channel Tech TV, a show called Fresh Gear considered The Segway to be a FLOP of 2002!!!

I know they're crazy!

i really like techtv (well, the idea of it)- we need to encourage technology in the mainstream, but -post launch- techtv has only really covered the segway san fran stuff and have ignored most/all of the other great segway stories, it's just a matter of opinion, but that's mine. the dean kamen bio special was great, it's too bad they don't show that more often.

the ht didn't ship to consumers until 2003, so that seems weird for them to say it was a flop...but hey, 2002 was a tough year for everyone.

sumi das, the host of that show (fresh gear) left techtv to go to msnbc, eric hill left for cnn...the chairman and chief executive larry wangberg left as well. in the last year a couple hundred of techtv employees were laid off. chris pirillo host of call for help left. a lot of shows have been cut, changed...

a lot of people are saying techtv is about to go off the air, others think a technology centric channel is a flop...i hope not. we need someone in the media promoting technology and innovation, right?

If the Segway were a "flop", then by all means I'm proud as hell to say I belong to a very special and extremely wonderful group of 'floppers' like the folks here on Segway Chat. Since the Segway obviously isn't a flop, I'm just glad I'm a part of this exceptionally great forum and, further, a growing ownership base of open-minded individuals who are expanding their lives by using alternative transportation.

I think the point was (Remember the time period) was that after all the hype (Anti-gravity and all that) that it was a two wheeled scooter. In other words it didn't live up to the hype.
