How big are you?
I am a big guy, and I would take the I over the P. The I seems to have a bit more "Give" on turns and such. You can also move your feet around a bit on the I.
The P is much smaller and good for a smaller person. It goes slower and has less power.
If you have a VERY SMALL car the P might fit better.
The P costs less.
The P is a bit more "people friendly" although I have never had a problem getting around people on the I.

Depends on your needs. Will you be taking the HT with you on the bus or train as a daily commute cycle? Will you be riding mostly on flat, paved surfaces? Then a p might be right for you.
If you're going over varied terrain, sometimes riding in dirt and will rarely take the HT onto a bus or train, then consider the i for range and occassional off-road use.
But since you're in Houston, and Segway of Texas is in Houston, maybe you could go try them out and see what you think you should get. SOT does have some p machines available for Houston area folks that are willing to participate in a study.

houstonseg!
Darlin' it's nice to see another lovely person from TX on SegChat!!!
Anyway, size matters! Don't ever believe that's not true.
When it comes to the Segway, think about how you want to use yours. Really you only ever drive it on a sidewalk or side street, will often take it into a building or transport it in a car. However, if you live in a very rural place, where the streets/sidewalks are unkept, you might like the bigger I series for your locale.
I'd personally choose the P series because it is smaller. However, it doesnt go as far (yet) and is easier to pick up. Cost is another factor, but don't let it guide you. Choose the right segway for the right uses.

I'd buy the "p" model only from what I've read about it and seen in photos and Dean Kamens in person. I hope to try one very soon at Segfest. I want the portability from it's smaller size....easier to put in the car. I recently sold my "i" and now it's a waiting game for a new one. I may also buy another new 'i' and have two models to use as needed.

Xavier,
I Series -- definitely. It's a little bulkier and a little heavier, but ultimately it's the only one of the two models that will traverse most terrain types with relative ease. I've used the P Series quite a bit and love it just the same, but the I series seems, to me at least, to be the absolute best choice. Then again, I've been on my I Series for five months and I'm a little biased!
I want to reiterate I'm not against the P Series at all, just that I'm simply predisposed to the utilitarian aspects of the I Series. I'm adequately comfortable with mine, so this decision is ultimately best made by yourself and what you feel your Segway should do for you.
All my best!
