On my glide home the other evening, I saw some cute neighborhood kids selling lemonade, so went a little out of my way to patronize them and (I thought) give them a little thrill. They acted just as if I was on foot - no big deal. Before I left I asked them if they had seen a Segway before, and they said "Sure, Ronald McDonald rode one in the Seafair parade."
Today I rode in another local parade, and one of the first units out was Ronald on a Segway, with the golden arches stenciled on the 12.0 bag.
These two parades were around 15 miles apart. Could this be a decision by McDonalds corporate to give Ronald a more modern image and appeal? Anyone else seen him on a Segway in parades elsewhere in the country?

Oh Terry that's terrible! I shudder to think that McDonalds wants to identify with the segway. . .talk about the lazy jokes we're going to get from that!
*shakes head* That's a terribly marketing decision if Segway knew that they'd be selling it to them. Good lord.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's terrible. Maybe it's just a local thing anyway. Besides, Ronald doesn't appear to be unfit or overweight.

It's not terrible...it's excellent, Kelsey...when you start seeing mascots, things like that on Segways, particularly mascot-representatives of companies like McDonalds, it shows that the HT is starting to find its way into the mainstream a bit more. It's acceptable to use a Segway to get around nowadays, it's not just a yuppie plaything.

*misinterpreted again*
Bruce, while it may seem like a trite example of the Segway's acceptance, it's interesting to see the HT being used in part of a common company's marketing schemes. While not the best indicator, it is an indicator nonetheless of the Segway's acceptance into more mainstream businesses (in this case a huge fast-food chain with a clown as their mascot). Don't take this the wrong way and assume I'm saying that it's wonderful we have a clown on a Segway. It's wonderful that a business stuck some guy on a Segway as part of their marketing method.
Whether my point is validated depends entirely on our findings...it'd be incredibly neat if this were integrated a bit into their proper marketing campaign, and not just a local gimmick.

I think it's a pretty good indicator of the Segway's usefullness as a parade vehicle more than anything else.
I think it make the segway look like a novelty, which it is still.

I think Ronald McDonald on a Segway is great for the kids, the company, Segway, and fun......and I'm not saying that because I'm a MCD's stockholder, nope, not saying that because I'm a stockholder...nope...has nothing to do with that at all...not a bit...nope.
