My Segway 12.0 bag was warped. The stiffener on the bags back plane (the side that fits against the control column) definitely bulged inward eating valuable interior space. Segway LLC cheerfully sent me a new one, but it was warped, too, right out of the box. Hmm.
Digging deeper, I found that the stiffener was in a Velcro-sealed pocket and could, with some difficulty, be removed. It's a round edged sheet of 1.5mm thickish translucent plastic. Very tough stuff, but reverse rolling it gets rid of most of the warp. Apparently the pocket it resides in is slightly too small for the stiffener.
I sent the replacement bag back, then set out to fix the stiffener itself. I trimmed about 20 mm off the narrower bottom end and rounded the corners of the cut the way it had been originally. The cavity it occupies is round-cornered. Now it fits like a champ.
Others had warned me about this "feature" but now it is nice and flat without eating my carry space. Fixing it is easy with a few minutes of Xacto surgery, but you will gain an appreciation for the bag design and materials if you do trim yours. Getting the thing out and back into the bag is neither a piece of pie or easy as cake.
How many others have noticed this, or even had it show up as an issue?
