Well my parents called me from the road last night. They were calling from a coworker's cell phone... yes, they still don't own a cell phone (I kind of admire that).

They asked if I was okay (living in Albany, our power was out for the majority of the day, but when they called (about 7PM) it was back. NYC, they said was apparently still on a blackout. "We're on Northern Blvd, walking home from work" They work in Manhattan and live in Queens.

Just then I thought, wouldn't it have been a great thing if they owned and used Segways? They're complete technophobes, but the Segway is so darned intuitive.

Since I was going down to visit them anyway this weekend, and I was going to show off my Segway... I thought I might put the old sales pitch in action, and see if they wanted to save money on a Subway rides/gas/etc... and get 2 Segs... Maybe an i for him, and a p for her.

What do you think?

I've often wondered exactly what the mileage is in from Queens. (as an aside)

I'm sure the thought of the possibilities will be clear in their minds this weekend <G>.

When I lived in Queens with them, I often rode from my apartment to Central park over the Queensboro bridge and back. The Cateye on the bike always said it was around 12 miles roundtrip (Queens to Manhattan, around Central Park (inner loop) and back)

I am sure if they take their Segs, and have them charging at work, they can go to work, and come home with plenty of charge left.

Mind you, they lived fairly close to the East River, so for those who live more inland (ie. jackson heights, Lefrak City, etc... would have a greater trek)

I'm glad they got home safe and sound! I'm sure being together was a comfort - it would have been for me!
