I wanted a bike computer to keep track of miles and avg speed. I saw how a couple others had mounted theirs so I thought I would give it a go. Well, not so easy. These segs just aren't bike computer friendly. I must have spent a solid two hours just finding the best place to mount the pickup. Goop worked well. Then I still had to deal with routing the wires and mounting the display.

Deciding that I didn't like the idea of splicing the wires, not to mention that I didn't want wires going up the control shaft, I opted to mount the display on the fender.

Hopefully the display won't be any harder to see than the seg's display. Diverting attention to view the bike computer appears to be no different than looking at the smiley face. Time will tell... ;)

I like that idea ... we shouldn't be staring at a digital screen while gliding anyway .. could you have attached the display directly to the fender and not have that extra 2 - 3 inches of pipe ?

Nice. That looks ultra-clean, with the exception of the wire.

What's your mounting post made of, and how is it affixed to the fender?

Do you have plans to run the wire under the fender?

Not really, because the computer slides off the base. You can see the release tab just below the red button. It needs about 3mm surface clearance to operate. I thought about flush mounting it on a shim but then for the display to be level (facing the rider) I would have had to move it to the top of the fender. Too far back in my opinion. The mounting post could've been a lot shorter though.

Thanks, the post is a wood dowell. It is attached with a SS screw up through the fender.

If I stay happy with this arrangement I will run the wires inside a pipe (instead of a dowell) and there will be zero visible wires.
