I apologize for posting this message twice but I made the mistake of adding it to an old thread (http://www.segwaychat.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3249)with the result that not many current readers saw it.

Those of us attending Robert's Houston-Area Segway Smash last Saturday (http://www.segwaychat.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4227) discussed my planned Segway show at The Science Place during the State Fair of Texas in October. I asked for suggestions on what we could do to put on an entertaining show did didn't require a lot of rehersal.

One idea was a Segway jousting tournament in which each competing rider would carry a "lance" (perhaps a longish pool que) and try to spear a suspended ring after navigating a slalom. The tournament could start with 6-inch rings, then go to smaller rings in each succeeding round until the winner speared a 2 or 3-inch ring.

Another idea was a synchronized pinwheel in which 5 or 7 riders would line up abreast in a straight line. With the center rider pivoting in place, the line would rotate either clockwise or CCW while trying to keep the line straight.

Perhaps we could invite members of the audience who had previously ridden our HT at The Science Place (we will begin offering orientation and 10-minute rides to the public next week) to try their hand at either of these two manuevers.

Surely there are other acts we could perform to show off our Segway skills. What do you Chicago chaps have planned for your Labor Day Segway Fest? I am open to any other suggestions.

And I still offer a standing invitation to all of you to join us that weekend for a grand Segway show, a tour of The Science Place's "Where There's a Wheel There's a Way" exhibition, and free entrance to the world's grandest State Fair.

And be sure to see Mark's note posted to the old thread on July 23.

Paul,

For the Chicago skills competitions, see the www.segwayfest.com Web site, click on either day one or day two "schedule and details," and scroll down to "skills competitions."

Here's my note from the other thread:quote:Originally posted by hodgepoj

...And I still offer a standing invitation to all of you to join us that weekend for a grand Segway show, a tour of The Science Place's "Where There's a Wheel There's a Way" exhibition, and free entrance to the world's grandest State Fair...And grand it is! I plan to attend during the annual Texas/OU game at the Cotton Bowl, although I will be on the Segway at the time. All the OKC TV crews are there, so there is a chance to get on camera with the Segway before or after the game.

The State Fair of Texas is the cleanest "amusement park" I have ever seen. Cleaner than Disneyland, and I worked at D'land in the '70's when it was spotless! Check http://www.bigtex.com/ for more information.
