Hi, Gang;
Did a dumb thing the other night. Let a friend on my Seg while I rode my wife's and we went for a black key spin around the block. He was doing so well (after ten minutes -- dumb) I graduated him up to yellow (dumber), then to red (dumbest). We were going up a hill (street) and I could tell he was feeling uneasy leaning forward. He kept adjusting, until he finally came to a complete stop, crouched over, butt out, chest over the handlebars and said, "I think the Segway's broken; I can't get it to move forward." Before I could say or do anything he stepped off it backward and of course the Seg was on and immediately nose-dived and jolted backward (missing his shins). He got a nice road rash on his elbow and scraped his knuckles before the Seg shut down.
It could have been worse. He did a George Bush dismount but still ended up on all fours.
So now the front of the right handlebar is chewed up and ragged from hitting the pavement and scraping over it. What's the cost of repair? What would the repair even be? A whole new handlebar assembly?
You'll see an allen screw in the end of the handle, remove this with your wrenches and slide off the hand grip for inspection or repair if you would like.
The two grips and turn collar - $150. I don't know if they will sell you just the right hand grip. Call and ask.
Control stick without any grips - $450

First, is the unit still fully functional?
Second, is the damage limited to the dark grey portion or is it more extensive and if so how extensive?
I believe if it is just the dark grey bumper it can be replaced easily as it just snaps into place. Check with Segway for how much the repair will cost. If it is just cosmetic and turns out to be expensive it may be a good time to get creative and think about customization.
Good luck,

More than likely the problem is just the bumper.
Cheapish. Hard to get the old one off, easy to get the new one on.

If it's just the grey bumper, it costs $25. If the tan area is scraped, get some matching paint and touch it up.

Hi David,
The good news is that (from what you described) you only damaged the front bumper. If the Segway just dropped to the ground (even if it was a slope), there's really nothing that could touch the ground except for the bumper. As Lohja mentioned, it's $25. (Hmmm, IIRC, Lohja damaged his on a slope, too.)
I don't think the key was the problem. It would have moved the same no matter which key he was using. He just made the newbie mistake of not leaning into the platform with his weight ont he slopes -- steep areas like yours are tough for beginners...
Oh well. I'm glad he wasn't seriously hurt!
Cheers,
Joseph

A bicycle in 1897 cost $25 ($2,200 today adjusted for inflation).
A Ford Model-T cost $850 in 1908 ($75,000 today adjusted for inflation).
(Can anyone point me to historical prices of horses?)

get the 12.0 front bag also... it protects the segway in these types of situations.

In addition to Toybuilder's point..
He also made the mistake of LETTING GO OF THE SEGWAY when he dismounted!
Mounting and dismounting. It's all a lot for a new rider to gather. Best to make a point of making sure they're listening.
Glad it's only $25. If GM made the bumper it'd be $200.00!

Right side? That's the grip. If it's just scratched then you can get that too. If it's snapped off. :(

Can you take a picture and post it? What is a right side rubber bumper?
