Not likely to be the real steve W. Remember when "Dean Kamen's niece" was posting here?
Steve, not to doubt you or anything. Loved your computer, back in the day, and all.
But if you're the real Woz, post a video of yourself saying "Hi Segwaychat!".
Welcome.

Hi Woz (yes folks, it's him) - I'd like to personally welcome 'ya to SegwayChat :-)
The videos aren't coming up for me either.. bad links?
EDIT: I modified the links.. you don't need those open and close brackets '<' and '>'
So I just watched the videos.. Woz, Segways work even better if you stand up on them! But seriously, thanks for sharing :-)
How many Segs do you have in total?

Great video guys. I was doing a little Knee Gliding yesterday myself when I was at the site of SegFest with FatherTime, LadyTime, Brooster and X-Man. I've been doing it for a while but the only problem is it's hard on the knees sometimes.Glide On

Hey Woz! Wow... our own 'resident celebrity' right here in SC!
COOLIO!
Nice vids -- I've been using the same techniques for getting under branches and obstacles for months myself (and for fun demos as well, yes, I admit I have FUN on my HT doing all sorts of inane stuff!).
I refer to this technique as "El Lowrider" and usually shout "Odelay Vato!" as I glide around in said position. Always gets a laugh down here in Tejas.
Segsledding, on the other hand, is also an absolute blast -- sitting on your rumpus ON the platform with your legs sticking out front. It makes it REALLY easy to go forward, but once you have the momentum up it extremely hard to stop (you have to pull back very hard on the control shaft column and lean waaaaay back!). Turning is a cinch if you lower the control shaft enough!
Thanks for the vids, Woz, and welcome aboard!

Very nice!!! Does this void your warrenty :)? I tried sitting down on the Seg Indian style wrapped around the control shaft but was quickly reminded of that wonderful feeling between my legs when you crash objects into it. Anyone dare to come up with a SegCup for extreme riding?

What do you do with 7 Segs?
I'm in the South Bay (Santa Clara)... have you found any good places to go for a glide around here? I was trying to organize a get-together for the bay area owners down here, but can't seem to find a good location.

Right-click on the links and then "Save Target As..." to save the files one at a time onto your own PC. I had no luck watching them in Windows Media Player as it couldn't find the proper codec, but they showed up just fine in Apple QuickTime. To get a free copy of QuickTime, just go out to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ and download the appropriate version. Once it's installed, you can load the AVI files and view them just fine...

I dont' own a Segway yet, so I don't know the subtleties of riding. But there was one gentleman in that video (the man in the black jacket riding an "i" mounted with a white bag whose shoulderstrap was hanging loose... It seemed as though he was much speedier than the rest. Was this only my interpretation? Were the perverbial governers on his sled removed? Or was he just pushing his Seg to it's limits. I know that it will take me some time to master the art of gliding, but when I do, I want to be going that fast in a straight line, as I do live in the country, and it's about 3 miles into town. Was he on the red key, and the rest on another?
Thanks for entertainling my uninformed question.
-Sal
Oh a P.S.
If Woz is reading this: Wheels of Zeus is a fantastic idea!!!! I read about it in Discover last week. Just fantastic.
For those who don't know. Mr. Wozniak has started a company (11 employees so far, named; Wheels of Zeus... W.o.Z.) that hopefully will set the standard for tracking devices. It's a small tracking device which can be attached to almost anything. And with base stations set within a few mile radius, you can track just about anything tagged. This is just a cursory overview, I am not doing this new standard justice. Just an abstract.

Yeah Steve, I am trying to do a article on Segway owners for my local paper (in Manchester NH) . It would be great to talk to you about your segway experience.... same thing with everything ells.

I have enjoyed this style of gliding while out riding with my daughter. Since her bicycle has training wheels, it is difficult for me to properly keep up either on foot or on a bicycle (unstable at slow speeds). However, with the HT, I can manage her erratic speeds with ease. When we chat, I simply squat down (and continue gliding) to communicate easily at her height.
I have not, however, attempted "high speeds" with that stance.

Well, to make sure that I don't behave like a raving fanatical fawning admirer when I meet you in Chicago, I'll get this off my chest now:
Mister Steve Wozniak, sir -- you are a god! I owe the life I have today to the learning and opportunities that you created! More importantly, I've always admired your dedication to learning and fun. You have made a big difference in my life. Thank you!
I was an English-deficient, uprooted 5th grade immigrant when I discovered the APPLE ][ in the classroom. I am not exaggerating when I say that I am here today because of it.

(late to answer - was travelling today)
We were all sober in the clips. It really was that much fun. All of us were at the same speed (red key). I only have one non-standard key and it's only a turning speed slowdown.
Sleepy - 7 segs - lots of my employees use them, we go in groups. Parks and trails are fun way to go to lunch. My kids use them in groups and take them to parties. Sometimes all 7 in use.
When I get someone to carry my load in a car, I can commute home hundreds of feet up a steep hill.
With a friend we had 9 at the recent Neil Young concert at Shoreline. They don't like anyone but myself riding them (I'm an amphitheater founder) - I train backstage - I'm in a photo with one group (Eisley) on their web page.
mattk - Woz sounds like a good dog name. I used my dog's name for my last year of college, at Berkeley (Rocky Racoon Clark). Jobs and I had our picture on Time magazine the day of my last final so I barely made it anonymously.
I was at the FIRST kick-off and was a judge in San Jose. I did spend some days at Dean's house and visiting DEKA and Segway.
X-man - sorry about the woz.com website. My personal site is woz.org - I use that one because I'm not a commercial person. I have some few Segway photos based on the Segway being a 'pedestrian' in CA law - I'm drinking a beer on it (and the WTC guy appears too).
Charmed - Thanks for praising the US Festivals.
I'm looking forward to Segway Fest. It's too bad that I can't just be unknown and have the same fun as everyone else, but I try.

Has anyone tried the opposite of "low riding"? That is, put a cinderblock or something on the Segway and rode around standing on top of it? I've always wondered what it would be like to be as tall as an NBA center.
Maybe the Seg would e-stand, too!

You were at the San Jose FIRST regionals?! Wow, I totally missed that! Of course, my geek sensors were on overload what with the super-mega-ultra totally cool robot action, the TWO Segway's there (Dean's and one I series), meeting Dean, hearing Dean, and having Dean run over my foot, if I met you I think my brain would have exploded, then there would have been a mess to clean up and paperwork to do!
BTW, my mom said that some people she is with this week saw you riding your Segway the other day. Big coincidence eh?
See ya at SegFest.

Woz, I was at Shoreline July 13th for a John Mayer/Counting Crows show, and had my first Segway sighting in the parking lot: two i167s, one with the new 12.0 bag and one with the old. I was standing in line to get in to the show, and I really wanted to run over and see who it was. Was it you or any other SC member?

Wow, when I bought my first computer Apple II (for about the same price as a Segway)with, I think 32k in 1981 my main frame mgr squashed my argument that these home computers would change the world. He said toys for boys.
Some of my friends think the Segway is another "toy for boys" idea.

You have friends in Chicago, Pat. We're looking foward to meeting you. Being an old Port Huron-Mackinac race crewman, I know your town pretty well. :)
My father (a retired AA Captain and former IBM employee) did some work with Woz for a short time, writing printer drivers in the 1970's, and still has a prototype Apple machine signed "WOZ" in felt-tipped pen. It's still one of his prized posessions to this day.
