On Saturday 6/28 Gerri from Segway called to mention a shipping problem and if they could borrow my Segway on Monday for a training class! (My larger car was in repair, so disassembly was a must no matter whos car was used.) Tracey (who trained us in Southern California) called on Sunday to make arrangements. I enjoyed my Sunday glide, then washed Seggy for training.

7:50 AM on Monday, Tracey arrived with her car, loaded with stuff for her transcontinental move! (Segway is arranging training stops as she travels across the country!) I gave her a quick tour of the home, then rolled the HT out for her to disassemble and place in her car. She commented how new it looked. Photos were taken fast, because the entire operation was finished in about 2 minutes! With 30 minutes to spare, I gave her the Segway keys and she rode off for her 7 mile drive. I went to work, then met Tracey at the house again about 11:30 AM. I arrived in time for instruction on how much force to use when turning the wrench. Tight enough to keep the control shaft from moving was her suggestion. Next, I glided up the grassy hill, showed how I move the large wheeled trash container, then parked the HT where it is charged. We enjoyed a nice chat before she got back on the road again. The experience reminded me of training day; fantastic happy staff with great attitude! It was a joy to be able to help. My only request, a new front bumper to replace the original one I damaged months ago placing the HT in and out of the car.

Mark

The following photos demonstrate how Tracey disassembled the HT (using her own wrench,) placed the handlebar into the backseat, and secured the base on the front seat.

Nice to "meet" you Tracey! Another great, smiling face from Segway LLC. Such nice people, across the board.

Good job in helping out the cause, Mark. If the LLC were ever to need help here, I'd do the same thing in a hearbeat. You're always in good hands with them.

Hey Mark! I know I am going to get in trouble for this remark but I will blame you for making it too easy. Hey Tracey, you can bend over my Segway anytime you want. Lincoln [8D]

That's exactly the same way I carry my HT in my Honda insight (except I don't have a backseat - just an open area). Oh, and I lift mine differently. - more weight on my knees. She looked like she was having fun!

Hi Pam! Me too! I grab a fender with both hands and put a lot of the weight on top of my leg just above my knee. It pivots right into place. Lincoln [8D]

Glad Gerri got ahold of you. I got the call Friday night if I could remember anyone in the OK city area. Yours was the only I could think of. Glad it worked out.

Tracy's moving away form Sunny SoCal? Surprising.

Pam, good choice on the Insight. I'm accustomed to using the side mirrors so I put my Seg in the back. I just drop the console and power it up a pair of ramps into the back and lock it in place by extending the control shaft under the rear lip inside. Granted, it totally blocks the already poor rear view, but I'm looking for a rear view camera setup to replace all the mirrors anyway. less drag :-) I can get pics if you like.

Don't think that would work in an Insight, citivolus - believe it or not there's not enough space in the back! I'd have to take the wheels off, too. I have no problems with my side mirrors. In the seat doesn't block the one on the right.

Hehehe, are you in for a surprise. My i series fits in the back of my 2000 Insight [citrus yellow if you're interested, squashed caterpillar green if you're not ;)]. It has to go in wheels toward the front and laying face down so the control shaft is parallel to the floor. One more thing, it must be centered, if it's too far to the side the wheels won't fit under the roofline. It really does fit, honest, I've got pics :-)

Tim: Thanks for the link to the pictures. Glad the thread is discussing how to get the HT in various cars.

Pam: Tracey was having fun the entire time and explained that normally she has room to leave the control shaft connected and positioned towards the back of the car while the HT was in a similar position as shown.

Sid: Thank you for mentioning me to Gerri. A nearby location and having "flex time" allowed for flexible scheduling.

Thanks to all for the positive and fun responses about a great Segway lady who made my day with her happy attitude! Keep on posting!

I have to agree with Tim, I carry my Segway in our Insight. It fits perfectly. Just make sure and have it centered. I throw blanket over it for long trip so that it doesnt roll back and forth too much and scratch anything up...

That color is often referred to as 'Stepped on caterpillar green' or 'Baby **** yellow'

Yeah, it's hard to miss, that's the point. I don't want to hear the sound of crunching aluminum followed by "sorry, I didn't see you".

Mzokc,
Was Tracy doing a training session on the road or working at a regular training center? Just curious if they are doing training on the wheel as it were. Thanks.

They do repairs and perhaps future orientations for our area. I did not inquire about the exact training that occurred.

Postscript:

I got a call this morning from Segway. "A little thank you gift is coming by UPS for allowing us to use the HT." Wow, Segway is so thoughful.

What arrived was a new lower front bumper as requested AND surprise, the Segway Control Shaft Quick Release!

That new front bumper will come in handy in Chicago so Seggy will look newer and ready for Dean's signature! The quick release will be great when I have to transport the Segway in a smaller car.

It's been a great week! Have a great 4th of July and glide safe!
