Mike's Bike Tours introduces Segway Tours

After five years of guiding thousands of English-speaking visitors through Paris on bicycle, Mike's Bike Tours has just added trendy technology to their repertoire-tours on Segways. The Segway is the first of its kind-a self-balancing, personal transportation device that's designed to operate in any pedestrian environment. Since their introduction early this month, the day and night Segway tours have regularly sold out. The 4-5 hour tours, which are limited to six clients with one guide, guarantee a wonderfully personal and private experience. The day excursion offers a unique and fun way to orient yourself in the city. Glide your way from the Eiffel Tower through two parks to Napoleon's tomb via the remarkable Invalides and Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde, Louvre and Orsay Museum district and more. Choose the night tour and see why they call Paris the City of Light. The tour begins along the Seine to Notre Dame with a stop at Berthillon's for a taste of their famous ice cream, followed by a ride through the Louvre's famous Pyramid courtyard and continuing on to the bright lights of the Champs-Elysées. What is so funny is that Willysnout who came charging onto the Segwaychat forum from the MS forum and was so adamantly against Segs on sidewalks is in Paris right now and he said he would probably try out a Segway while there.

The MS forum is down at the moment (unusual) but it will be interesting to see if WS really does try it out, and just what his reaction is.

A friend also visitied Paris in the last few weeks and said she saw them being rented out. She said most people were quite amazed and she felt smug being 'in the know' from being around mine.

When it comes to exploring and learning about a city that you have never seen before ... Hey bicycles get you close to a city but a Segway can bring you eyeball to eyeball with any city. Almost anyone can ride a Segway and have the experience of tasting, feeling, seeing, and absorbing a city on a very personal and emotional level. Not soon to be forgotten. I hope all cities ban the Segway except San Diego. We would become the vacation capital of the World. Even now it is a quite an experience to meet people from all over the World who love seeing and often are awe struck at being able to demo a Segway. The trouble is those other cities are probably as entrepreneurial
as San Diego is for those tourist dollars and the jobs they create. Lincoln [8D]

Hey! I hate to be such a materialistic guy but when my neighbors can feed their kids and buy their wife a new dress I know I have a better chance of living in a happy neighborhood. Lincoln [8D] P.S. Very selfish of me.

I took the tour on Friday. I have to say it was the highlight of my trip to Europe. Even my wife, a card-carrying anti-gadgeteer, was won over. We had already planned to take one of Mike's bike tours, not knowing that they offered the Segway tour until we saw them tooling around town on Thursday. The Segway turned out to be the perfect way to go sightseeing. You can cover a lot more distance than walking (which we had been doing for 6 straight days), it's quiet enough to hear the tour guide, you don't get tired, people ogle you and you have a lot of fun.

According to the tour guide, a member of the Saudi royal family saw them on one of their first tours, and was so impressed he bought 100 of them to give as gifts.

I can't say enough good things about Mike's Bike Tours. Definitely go see them if you are in the neighborhood. Another cool thing is that they will now rent Segways to people who have already taken the tour, at a really low price.
