I may be in the 4th of July parade with my Segway and need some patriotic decoration ideas. It's a pretty short parade .. 30 - 45 minutes long around 5PM.
And no .. I'm not going to dress like Will Farrel from Saturday Night Live ... The patriotic thong ! :-)

Aloha,
Sam

Hahaha, that's powerful imagery, an adult male on a segway in a... ooooo stop that. That's great about the parade Sam. I went to the orginazational meeting on Saturday for the 5th of July Family Day Parade here on Oahu and got my position in the parade so it is a go for me here. I was looking around this weekend trying to figure out just that, what to use for the red, white, and blue theme. I will follow your thread and hopefully get some ideas too.

Aloha,

I went to the Dollar Tree store and purchased two medium sized flags and one red-white-blue bow. I'll attach the bow to my handlebar and shaft and mount the flags on Wayne's BC carriers. I'll dress like a pirate in a colonial shirt and a three-cornered hat with a gold fringe. Cost of the flags and bow was $3.00 + sales tax. Cost of the pirate outfit was $0 because I am a pirate.

just an idea...in addition to flags, etc...

the message of car trip and car replacement isn't getting out there. perhaps a shirt or a sign that says "this segway replaces car trips 1 to 15 miles away"...seeing a segway is neat, knowing what it's doing for some is ever more helpful for our communities.

cheers,

How about a parade at Segway FesT (an early Labor Day thing)?

Uncle Sam will ride my HT in the 4th of July parade in Arlington, Texas. This is one of the oldest and better rated municipal 4th of July parades in the country. It's about 2 1/2 miles long and has floats and entrants from around the country. It's well covered on local cable TV.

I had originally arranged to be Uncle Sam, but the arrival of my second grandson called me to Denver for the week. So another staffer from the Exhibits department at The Science Place in Dallas had the costume fitted to him and he will ride in my place.

He will be accompanied by another staffer (in Wright brothers dress) riding an Ordinary bicycle -- one of those gay 90s jobs with a 48-inch front wheel.

Both riders will be preceded by two lovely young girls carrying a banner identifying The Science Place as their sponsor.

Since the theme of the parade is patriotic, both vehicles will sport a sign saying "The Science Place in Fair Park celebrates our freedom to explore, to discover, and to learn."

Both the HT and the Ordinary will also take part in the parade through downtown Dallas on the opening day of the State Fair of Texas (26 September) and will also participate in the daily twilight parade through Fair Park every day of the Fair (three weeks).

We are also planning a special Segway show on the Plaza in front of The Science Place in Fair Park during the State Fair (on Saturday, 11 October). We're inviting HT owners from all over the region to come to the Fair that day and participate in the show. Several have accepted.

Since there have been no other reported sightings of an HT in Dallas, you can imagine how popular it is to see one being ridden in a parade or in a mass demonstration. And it's also a helava lot of fun for the rider.

Ya'll come.

I can always go as an American Eagle so I can "Glide" :-)

Except I don't think those feet will fit on the platform.

I’m riding in a 4th of July parade too. Dressing as Uncle Sam would be fun, but it’s a small town and a short parade, so it wouldn’t be worth renting a costume – especially if it’s hot.

I rode with the PFLAG entry in the Seattle Pride Parade yesterday – at least the first couple of blocks. I turned the HT over to one of our state representatives for the remainder of the route. She looked a lot better on it than I did, and as one who helped pass the legislation permitting them on sidewalks, it was only fair ;)

There were about 150 groups entered, and thousands of spectators. I expected to be the only HT in the parade, but there were at least nine others! One of several participating radio stations rented eight of them, and someone else in a silver outfit was riding one.

On the way back to the car I proved to myself that the HT is useable even on the most densely packed sidewalks. Only polite questions and positive remarks.

Hi Terry,

I was the guy in the MirrorMan suit!! Sorry I didn't see you there, but obviously, I was somewhat regognizable! The Harbor Properties group hired me and my 2 segs to represent them.

I plan to fly the American flag again, maybe with a taller pole (watch out for powerlines!)

Hi Craig -

I wish I'd seen you. (Your costume was probably pretty tame compared to many, if you know what I mean. <w>) Guess there were 11 Segs in the parade then.
