View Full Version : wow! -- my first experience

i'm on "cloud 9." i've just finished my
very first segride.

it's been a long time in the making. i
ordered an i-series on 05.13.2003. de-
livery was thursday, 06.26.2003. (ouch!)
i had to pacify myself with the training
video, but that could only go "so" far.

i kept my promise to ride immediately after
the 12-hour battery charge, no matter what
time of day. it turned out to be at 12:30
a.m., in downtown denver.

everything worked, as was explained in the
video. (it was wonderful interfacing with
the "gui" "first hand.") (honestly, i watched
the video more than 10 times.)

getting into "balance" mode was no problem.
within the 1st minute, i was approached by
a couple who were "all smiles" about it. i
then crossed the street to practice in an
empty parking lot. i was a little "stiff"
on turns, but otherwise, it was better than
i imagined.

10 minutes later, i decided to "brave" the
sidewalks of downtown denver. ...minimal foot
traffic at that hour, so i had a lot of space
to myself. i got stares of amazement from car
passengers, a honk 'n wave, a "mob" scene, and
questions shouted from passing cars.

there were no mishaps, just total exhilaration.
spending this kind of money on something i'd
never tried, made me wonder if i had my head
screwed on "tight." but deep down, i just be-
lieved that it would be the perfect "fit." had
i known it was this wonderful, i wouldn't have
waited so long to become a proud owner. it blows
me away. i got off trembling.

probably the hardest part for me will be to give
demos. i feel that 1) it should always be under
_my_ feet; and 2) it's too expensive to "risk"
for demos. (i'm the type that "pampers" my toys.
--i know, i probably need to "workshop" that a
little bit.)

so, i just had to throw some words together, trying
to emote and to capture, in some sense, the essence
of what i experienced.

what a great machine!

kthxbye.

Don't hesitate to say "no" to demos if you're not comfortable with them. We're in no way obligated to do them, and they take some time and skill.

q,

Thanks for sharing! Glad you are enjoying the glide.

It's a lot easier for me to say no to demos when necessary, and the subject usually doesn't come up if I don't offer. Don't feel guilty, you will know when it's right and when you are ready.

If you do a demo, I have found to have the rider put both hands on the handle bars first, then put one foot on the platform (check position of the one foot first) then for the rider to just "step on it like a foot stool or ladder." That technique has reduced bucking to very little. It's amazing.

There are a lot of posts on the subject from the past, so have fun searching and reading about the demos and the great suggestions. There will be a few folks you want to give a demo to, so have fun and take your time learning so you are ready.

Enjoy!

Mark

Hey q ,
Glad to hear you are getting as much enjoyment from your Seg as most of us here. I certainly am no less impressed, and always happy to ride mine even 3 months after my purchase. I bought a new car about the same time yet the car never comes to mind, and I rarely ever look forward to driving the car as I do with the Seg. BUT.... be careful giving demos....what good will someone's apology be to you should they break and render your $5K machine damaged, possibly useless. Come to think of it I'll be in Denver July 20th and again July 29th. Ejoy your fine summertime gliding in the mile high !

hi glidemaster,

...coulda, woulda, shoulda. now,
i'm too old. it's a shame i've
never taken advantage of the
rocky mountains. oh, well....

but on the other hand, it leaves
more time for gliding!

kthxbye.
