Hi!
I was wandering near Mt. Holyoke College (western MA) and suddenly, there, in front of me, were 3 Segways!

We were all at a coffee shop and I as not on my Segway. Still, it was immediately like meeting old friends.
They had just seen the newspaper article about me and were pleased to meet me. What timing!

One man owned all 3 and was out with friends who were riding the other 2. AND THIS MAN HAD 5 MORE SEGWAYS AT HOME!

They had the new Segway bag so I got to see it. The owner had built himself a lightweight folddable (like a suitcase) ramp which he went and got for me to see.

That was interesting--he easily offered to let me Seg over to his car and see the ramp. But h did not have a black key and since Deviant altered my keys I was concerned that I might crash his and did not accept the offer. Actually, it was in the 90's, late in the day and very humid. My brain was half fried and I felt like a wimpy woman. I kept wanting to say "But I glide everywhere, everyday on the red key." Those of you with illness that robs you of yourself in such heat will understand.

Still, it was so delightful to meet other Seggers.

That's my story. Linda

Next time, Linda, just go for it <G>. You can go really slow if you need to, on the red key. This sounds like a super time. I really haven't met any other Segwayers in person, so I'm jealous <G>. (Other than my training, of course.)

Hi Pam--
I do always use my red key..It is just that Deviant altered it to have the black key's turning speed. You can't imagine how complicated things get when it is sooooo hot/humid.

It was fun. I'm glad I didn't crash his Segway! (I have never crashed mine....Now, after 4 months, I would be lost without it.)...Linda

That's awesome Lazarus, everybody always finds that the Segway community could easily outdo the Apple community in the one-big-group-of-friends effect. Pretty neat, huh?

I was down at Mt. Holyoke a month or two ago and I gave a demo to one of the campus security officers. He said he was gonna try to convince his boss to get a couple for use on campus. ;)

Hi Linda - wow - you have been a busy lady. I fully understand your reluctance to go riding. When the heat or fatigue gets to you things just don't work the same way do they?

Coordination is 'off' etc. etc. I never give demos unless I am feeling really good. I don't feel in control enough of the situation and on my down days I have stayed off the Segway altogether.

I am so happy with my red/black combination key - it makes for a totally different ride doesn't it. I was maneuvering out of the garage the other day, around boxes and some new patio furniture being assembled. If I had been on red/red I know I would have managed to scrape or bruise something. The first time I tried something similar on red/red I jammed my hand up against the side mirror on my Jeep and caused a really nasty bruise that lasted ages.

It's good to see how much use you are getting out of the Segway (from your article). I was corresponding with a guy from Canada (he got my e-mail from here) regarding him purchasing a Seg. I sent three or four e-mails with my experiences and he drove down to NH last week for training and to pick up his machine. He e-mailed me a couple of days ago to say how happy he was that he went ahead and purchased.

Life is good!

Jill
