As a new owner I have read the manual, watched the video etc. After awhile I noticed I quit watching or reading the warnings because they were everywhere and seemed to touch on the same theme: take it easy at first.
Has anyone else felt that maybe there are so many warnings they become less important?
Nice to see another Oregonian.
The warnings do get repetitious and I guess that's the point. But it is like sitting in noise and you soon don't hear it anymore.
Being involved in product liability where I work, I understand the company's need to cover all that they can for their position.
And you got the point, take it easy as you learn. I still have to remind myself to slow down when I feel the glide going out of control.

You would be amazed at the stupidity I have seen people perform with the Segway.
Postal worker falls down. I run up. "WHat hapened." "I rode through this mud puddle and I fell down. It's was like it shut off." "Duh, don't do that again."
And I can't count the amount of people that have tried to fight an e-machine in e-stand. Often with me screaming in thier ear as it is kicking thier *** "LET GO OF THE FECKING THING!!!!"
Oh and people who know how to stop and forget screaming "WHAT DO I DO" as they ride into a wall.
If anything there are not enough warnings to overcome the lack of common sense that is apparently part of the Segway experience.
Oh yeah and people who literally climb over the handlebars trying to get it to go faster.

Hi Scepter77! The warnings are not over kill, but the stupidity of some people IS. Because of the intuitiveness of the Segway a lot of people become so cocky and overconfident that they wind-up getting hurt or hurting someone else. Once you begin to glide in the real world you realize how much you don't know about gliding.

The Segway is a quixotic device. So intuitive, so calming in its ease of use that its very easy to be caught off guard. There is so much power under your feet yet you wield it so effortlessly. This can lead to a certain complacency. "Hey I never fall down, this is a piece of cake! Then it happens. Maybe you're looking off to the side, catching the reaction of passers by or just enjoying the view. Its getting a little dark but you cruise effortlessly at 12.5 . You don't notice that piece of debris/bush/post/pothole etc. in front of your left wheel. Bam!! You spin instantly, wheels suddenly 90 degrees to your original trajectory. your feet are trapped and your forward momentum carries you off the platform head first. Next thing you know you're on the ground next to your banged up Segway. What the **** happened? You were wearing a helmet weren't you!
