Several people have posted that Segway training now involves a trainer coming to your home, instead of having to attend a group orientation somewhere. Yet, the Amazon Segway page still seems to require the customer to schedule a group orientation.

So which is it?

If you order through Amazon, you do it the Amazon way... go to one of the trainings and then get your Segway. If you order direct from Segway, and you have not had training before, you get your Segway delivered, and have training the next day at the place it was delivered. They schedule the delivery to arrive the day or two before the trainer is available. If you order through a dealer, and the dealer can not verify that you had training thru Segway, he is reponsible for training you. (You either visit the dealer, train, and take it with you; visit the dealer, train, and have it shipped to you; or the dealer sends someone to train you.)

if you go to http://www.segway.com/shop/ and says this and i quote "Please note that our orientation process has changed—all customers now receive product orientation in the comfort of their home."

or you can go to http://www.segway.com/faqs/faq.cgi?subject=1047390562 and it tells you everything

True, I ordered through Amazon and the trainer is coming to me. Interesting to note, I received my Segway today, but the trainer was not able to get me in until Tuesday of next week. So, if I play by Segways rules, my Seg will sit charging for five days before I use it. I'm sorry, I lack the self control!

Also, the segway "Attention" insert they staple to the instruction pack simply states that they strongly encourage you to wait to ride your segway until you have completed training. Unlike before, they now cannot require the training in order to receive your Segway, and I don't think they can take it back after it's delivered.

The trainer told me he "thought" the Segway came in a few peices that would need to be assembled, so I wonder how often he really has done this.

There is no longer a written exam like those who came before me had to take. Instead I sign off on a sheet for him that he taught each item on a list and gave appropriate warnings. I assume he has to turn this in for payment.

Unlike the group training sessions where you can bring on non owner with you to learn (such as a spouse), the on-site trainers will only train one person per Segway. The others can watch, but no on-Seg training for them.

Does anyone know how these guys got selected as trainers? I have read on the board that people suspect that they are part of a contracted company similiar to GE Computer Services who provide on-site support for many computer manufacturers. I'm curious what else they do?

The company is called Decesion 1 and they have been trained to repair the Segway and recently trained to train people how to ride.

If you have a Dell computer with a problem call Dell and have them send a technician. Maybe you will get a discount.

Same with Sun Microsytems.

So then the conclusion is that the Amazon page is simply incorrect?

So when is Amazon going to stop saying that they are "the only place to order a Segway ?"

What I'm wondering is what on earth a "helmut" is according to Segway's Training FAQ.
