I am sure this has been asked a million time already, but does anyone know where I can get a key that restricts speed to around the 3mph area? My company owns the Segway and we use it as part of our technology demonstration program...I end up giving TONS of demo rides on it and occasionally a person will try and take off before they are even close to stable.

any ideas??

Chadr, there are some posts on the boards about keys of varying speeds. One of our boardmembers, Deviant, can make them. Another boardmember, Lipinsky, has posted to the list directions on how to make them. A search on each of their names will help. Deviant's information is probably in the Segway Stuff for Sale forum.

I have a Green key from Deviant@pdq.net It is very slow. E mail him and he will send you a release, you mail the release and one of your keys (for the code) the price is around $44. I had a great experience with Greg and recommened him highly. You can do it yourself if you are good with computers, It could be rewarding. your key has the email address on it.

Chadr,

Deviant did me a key and I got fast service and was very pleased with the key.

Chad, did you ever follow-up on the slow key options? I'm looking for a solution, too.

I'd get in touch with Deviant - At the SegFests, Linda Brennan has been there from Segway, providing an "extra" key - whether it's a slower demo key or a combo of speeds key. But you might not want to wait until then.

I had custom slow keys made. Never use them. The stock keys are perfect.

Chad,

Without a special key, I will tell the speed demon to practice stopping. Never let go of the Seg if they aren't "balanced." I do all of my demos with the red key, without problems.

wow..digging up a topic from June of 03...Impressive...I was shocked to see my topic again!

Anyways...yes I did get a super slow key from Deviant..works wonderful!!!

My segway is actually owned by my employeer. We give demos all day long on it and wanted a slow key to better ensure the safety of the rider as well as others around us.

Seems to work perfectly!!!

GotSeg is also a key maker - and he is using the funds to put away for his segway purchase (he is a very seg focused teen & can use the dough).

I find that the slow key that you can get made is the only way - still they can get away from you - but not as fast as on the black key.
