SegFest Chicago Idea - "Family Reunion"

SegwayChat in its time has brought together the most driven (segged?) individuals together with a common interest in the Segway HT. We've shared our stories, our thoughts, and our experiences with one another in a public forum to gain a greater knowledge. It's been a great year, and so many memorable events have happened right before our eyes. In a way, we've become a family of sorts.

I'd like to propose that we put together a general assembly reflection on the last year of our SC "family". A few speakers could talk on the memorable events and lessons of this forum, and the entire Segway community. This wouldn't be a gathering of corpses, but something lighthearted and energetic - the times the entire community laughed and stood awed, the times we rallied in alarm. I think this should be a short opportunity to recap the last year passed, and the times we've all shared together!

Fathertime, Ladytime, Brooster, GlideMaster, and the other contributors to this event, I'd like to hear what you think of this, and whether it would be feasible to tie it into the convention somehow.

Guys, if you'd be interested in something like this, speak up! The coordinators won't approve it, and I won't work for it, if there isn't SC interest!

I think that you have a wonderful idea and would welcome your input to organize some anecdotes into a presentation piece for our banquet. If you could limit it to 10 to 15 minutes that would be great. Let me know what you decide and I will work you into the program.[^]

Just thinking out loud, FWIW. I've got plenty of ideas. Maybe you can walk us through all the physics equations that show us why the Seg works? How about a live debate between owners and renters (or a cage match)? Or how about a private detective reveals to us live the true identity of groovy? SALAD PLEASE! Oh, here’s a good one, a safety lecture by Andrew the Segway Monster. Is this a cash bar for the price of these tix?

But seriously, I'll settle for being able to partake in a standing ovation for Frank.

As a retired physics professor, I would be pleased to put together about 8 or 10 PowerPoint slides on the physics behind the HT's sensors, sampling, balancing, control circuits, propulsion, batteries, etc.

I'm not thinking of the sometimes dull lectures you may recall from your science classes but of the lively and informative explorations I lead visitors through at The Science Place.

opti!!!! I had an idea like yours, but i think you'd do a better job. My suggestion is to make is Seussical: rhyme everthing and if you can't find a word make up some new ones! It can't be dull when its Dr. Seuss!!!

Off subject a bit but...
I heard rumors about a segway convention DVD comming out, after the convention, duh! But maby another CD may come with it which holds opti + others powerpoint presentation, along with pictures of the event + any other type of thing which can be digitalized!

We'll see how the presentation goes. I still need contributions from you guys before I can produce anything. Photos, video clips, anything you might have, send it over and I'll sort it out. Just include a short description or link to a thread in SC, or your own site, and I can see how to tie them all together.

If there's enough interest, I'll bring a big CD spool just in case, but if somebody wants to take something home with them, I can rig up an automated version (maybe as the primary too. who knows).

Opti, we have the opportunity to edit the footage after the event and also to include anything that you might put together for our DVD. The important thing is to get started right away. The Segway Fest will be here before you know it. We will have live steady-cam feeds and "B" roll footage to include.[:P]
