I wonder if I could fashion one of those into a Segway keychain? It might look very smart. I don't need the quick-release, but a keychain with the Segway logo laser-etched in silver would look nice!

I've been using a Segway control shaft quick release since February and it works great.

By the way it dosen't show up when I check the site.

Glidemaster, I found it from the link. It's just before you get to the lights part.

It's just before the lights section. You might try hitting refresh on your browser, just in case you've got an earlier version of the page cached.

Even refresh didn't work this time with "Safari" on the Mac. Use "Empty Cache..." under the "Safari" menu if necessary.

I love the new quick release--but I have one question. Does anyone think this will make it more likely that someone will steal your control shaft even when the wheel/base is locked up?

Ive wondered about that, as well as the battery(s).

I think this would be a nice thing to have. You could always pop it out and use the standard 4mm hex arrangement if you're going to be leaving the machine unattended and locked.

How often do you guys remove the shaft, and for what reason? Micky

Shaft removal for me has been to transport my machine and also if I need to do a cold "reboot" (which is accomplished by undoing and redoing the cords in the control shaft.) I've had to do 2 reboots in the 5+ months I've had the machine, and transporting it - about 20 shaft removals and reattachments. (small car)

I use mine now and then and it's easier than having to use a hex tool all of the time. The King of Balance by the way uses one on his P series glider.

Is this quick release a twist and pop out lever or or a lift and unscrew lever? Is it a screw? It sounds like Segway is finally getting some really good accessories for the HT going. Either way its one less tool you'll have to carry around or lose. And I bet it really saves time and trouble while transporting and rebooting.

Yeah, the question is "Will it be easier for someone to take your control shaft?"

Oh, while on that subject...Does anyone know if the HT handlebars and shafts are interchangable with all the others? Like if someone broke or damaged theirs could they actually take someone elses and pop it on to their own? Seems to me that this IS possible. Could they encrypt a code to the handlebars too so that this shaft will only fit onto your HT?

If true, it would open up a new meaning for the term "shafted":)

I agree - this is something that should either be a no-cost option at the time of purchase or just included with every new Segway.

It is my understanding that the control shaft handlebars are keyed to the base and/or keys. A test has been performed by wheels verifying that switching control shafts results in inoperable units, but functionality is restored upon correct mating. Thus, I believe there are chips in the handlebars with memory, along with the capability to read the 1-wire iButton key.

It's a lift and unscrew (just 1 or 2) turns, then just pull up and make sure you have the control shaft all the way down because of the cables. I've had mine since March. By the way, it does save time.
