A number of us emailed NPR suggesting that the interview on Talk of the Nation with Gary Rivlin from Wired magazine was a bit misleading. Well, it paid off!

I got a call this morning from NPR (I just happened to take the day off!) asking me questions about how I use mine, how maneuverable it is (he seemed to think it wasn't), whether it was worth the money, etc., and whether I'd give an interview to Neal Conan for a follow-up piece. I said I would, and Mr. Conan called just before noon. I was a little nervous, but think it went pretty well. His first question was about what I use it for, and I mentioned that I had ridden it to the gym this morning. He said something like "Well, so much for the no exercise argument, huh?"

It's a short piece, and I wasn't very eloquent, but at least it comes from an actual owner.

So listen in on Monday, or on their web site after it airs.

Attaboy Terry ... that's great to hear! I'm glad they're interested enough to explore the issue further and speak with an actual owner. I'll never understand why NPR thought someone from WIRED would necessarily be an authority on Segway HTs.

Thanks, but I think I sound like a nerd. (But then, why shouldn't I?)

Yeah, Terry, I didn't think you sounded at all like a nerd. Just like the kind of Segway owner who takes care of themselves and their machines (and by extension, then, the others on the sidewalk, etc.) - just the kind of voice that I think anyone would be happy to have "represent" them.

Terry -- you did great! And the "riding to the gym" comment was perfect!

Nice piece. Well done.

Also the riding to the gym trumped the segment just before you in which the doctor was against the Segway because it is just another device for people to ride instead of walk and get fat.
