Oh, I can only guess what the zero-charismas on Slashdot are saying about this. I'm sure it all boils down to this:
"It serves him right for trying something new. Get back in line with the rest of us sheep!"

These guys are so uninformed one actually figured you could hotwire an HT by ripping open the handlebar and shorting a couple of wires together! Plus the usual "yet another way for lazy people to avoid walking" rants. I have to admire pt for going in there and having the stamina and patience to take on these knowall numbnutz.

Here's a sample snipped from the folks on Slashdot. Who ARE these people, and why do they get their jollies publicly posting their violent fantasies? Did they ALL get beat up on in gradeschool?
"Why? That is another question. I was almost run over by one of these things on the sidewalk in Manhattan the other day. Mr. UpperWestSide Yuppie was navigating the sidewalk, including the wheelchair cut-outs at intersections with some aplomb, but I really had to suppress an urge to just knock him off the damn thing.
My inclination was to just knock the guy off the segway, not to knock over the segway itself.
My plan was an elbow thrust deep into the chest, causing the rider to lose his grip on the handlebars and go careening into a woman obstructing the top of the stairs at a subway entrance..."
Now I remember why I quit reading Slashdot. (Score: 5 Superior Pr*ck) ruined the place.

I used to have an old sound file that I think would be appropriate to send to all of these Segway naysayers. It said, in a sing-song voice:
"You are an idiot!"

Fear not, for even though I come from the Forbidden City, I surely do not agree with the rules.

Obviously, my riding skill was far short of "aplomb" if I only "almost" ran him over.

Most of these guys are so jealous for a Segway they can taste it! They have no choice but to deride that which they aspire. A couple of them pull wings off of flies for fun tho - Glide carefully Dexter!

Yeah, Dave... next time, make sure to run him over REAL GOOD and show him who's the superior of the species!
Just kidding... I would never condone violence... God abhorrs such a thing! ; )
Don't any of you start saying I must be a reckless guy -- you all know I'm very responsible and believe all Seggers should adhere to courteous, polite interaction with pedestrians.
That disclaimer made, the *&$#ole who wrote that deserves to have his ego checked (and clock cleaned for that matter), but in reality he's probably some 80-pound pimply-faced geek sitting in his mama's basement typing away all these great threats that if he ever tried to make good on he'd probably have the floor mopped with himself. Chances are, anyone who talks that much smack obviously hasn't got the means to adequately defend himself.
Speaking of which, it reminds me just why I keep my pepper spray handy. Not just for dogs, but in case... JUST IN CASE... someone ever tries the same with me.
Of course, I know that 99% of the people I meet end up liking me, loving the Segway, and would NEVER do such a thing, but there are always exceptions to every rule.

Now that is scary- we are spraying people with pepper spray who don't like Segways now. I guess I need to keep up with the times....
Nah, we're only spraying people with pepper spray who threaten to do us bodily harm, Segway or not. I haven't found anyone who doesn't like a Segway <G>. Some of them just have funny ways of expressing that like - or lust - or jealousy.

Hey emanresu.... go back and re-read what I wrote -- I said "JUST IN CASE someone ever tries..." to do bodily harm to me. I don't advocate trying to take offensive action against anyone, and I think you'll see I suggested it as a defense ONLY.
Please, give me some credit. I would NEVER do such a thing to someone for no reason whatsoever! Pam got it right!

Wanna know what's really scary?
Emanresu thought the pepper sprary was scarier than someone trying to "...elbow thrust deep into the chest, causing the rider to lose his grip on the handlebars and go careening into a woman obstructing the top of the stairs at a subway entrance" just because they don't like your Seg ;)

My HT is still on the wanted list, but all publicity is
good publicity right? I'll have to admit, I had to smile
at a lot of those responses on the Nerds site. Still trying
to think positive...
State Farm said a flat No, on my homeowners claim. I've now
turned it all over to the State Ins. Com. That's about my
last shot, unless someone wants to collect the $300 reward.

But if you had State Farm coverage for the Segway, which costs about 150. per year, you would received a full replacement check!

pt and you thought my posting pix of "public places" was creepy! At least I didn't post the address of SC members! This certainly tells people where a Segway lived (and when replaced LIVES). Public posting of the police report was wrong. Don't know anyway of preventing it though.
lipinsky-
it is creepy. i don't like it at all.
we live in a society that loves to poke, pull and put each other's misery and private lives on display. it's up to us, one person at a time to change this, starting with ourselves. at least that's what i try to do.
cheers,
pt
