Wow, a great addition to PT's web site is the animated agent who just happens to look and talk like PT. http://www.bookofseg.com/
Neat stuff! One step closer to "Apple's Knowledge Navigator." Check this web site of two clips from the original video done in 1988. It was filmed before the days of PowerBook, portable color, voice recognition, web cams, video phone, NetMeeting, the world wide web, wireless networking, portable touch screens and agents. http://www.billzarchy.com/clips/clips_apple_nav.htm
I did find the complete Knowledge Navigator video if you have a high speed connection. A bit smaller with fair sound: http://www.bu.edu/jlengel/kn65kfs.mov Note that it takes place about 2010, we are still on schedule!

Yeah, he added that a few days ago. I think it is really cool!
One tip, pt, when recording the sound, hold the mic just a tad farther away. There were little noises at the end of some words, due to being too close. Other than that, AWESOME!

Fear not, for even though I come from the Forbidden City, I surely do not agree with the rules.
yah, i'm going to change the message, this is me in "beta" mode. i figure, i ride a self balancing human transporter to work, i store much of my life on a 30gb ipod, i use a phone that can take pictures--- surely i can make a website a little more exciting without making it lame.
cheers,
pt

Hey that is cool....
I like how the eyes follow the mouse cursur. I try to make it dizzy. Or shake its head no. Ha :)
Maybe you can get one animated with you on your HT it. Then have you glide across the screen. Wouldn't that be fun. Thats great PT...

It's all based on flash, right? So an animated pt coming in on a Segway would be pretty easy.
I looked at the site that offers these little guys. It seemed like a very expensive technology. $200 for a year's license? Just for a talking head? Not sure that's anything more than a gimmick that catches someone's attention the first time they visit a site. It was interesting on book of seg, for instance, but the next time I visit a site with one, I'll just scroll past it.
I think that the idea of talking computer-generated announcers/virtual celebrities keeps being re-discovered. We had Max Headroom in the 80's, ananova in the 90's (which has since shed its virtual host). None of them seem particularly compelling. The irony is, the most compelling of the cyber-celebs was Max Headroom, who was actually played by a human!
This technology seems more like a widget than a host. $200 a year seems a lot to pay for someone with less interactivity than Microsoft's Clippy.

Wow... a VIRTUAL PT! How dandy!
PT's clone is a blast to watch, man that's really cool!
Bruce was right about the Max Headroom comparison... some day, we will all be virtual people and we will all be a simulacra of our former selves. Almost... Matrix-y... spooky!

Well - I found out what had been bugging me about my computer - someone had turned the volume off!! I checked this out at work and my sound card there is shot so I figured I would check it out at home - still no sound!!! Hmmmm - OK so now I check out the obvious and sure enough the volume was at zero!
I was surprised just how much could be stored in the iPod. I had thought it was just for music but I see you can store all sorts of stuff in it and use it to transfer info from one computer to another - an amazing little machine and well worth the price.
Great addition to your Book of Seg!
Jill
