I would check amazon.com first. The company you are planning on using is NOT a licensed reseller. This also means that your segway will NOT be covered by a warranty because they can't be transferred, and that you will be paying more than a fair amount.

SegMe, it's entirely possible they are a licensed reseller - after all, they're in the UK, so we might not have gotten a press release here. If there's a question about someone being a licensed reseller, I would suggest contacting Segway and asking directly. Carla Vallone, who is their media person, should know. Unless, SegMe, you're a Segway employee who knows about these things from their work with the company.

Benji,

I'm in the UK and have had a segway for a couple of months... i love it. Actually, im going on holiday to france soon, and will be bringing it with...

A friend bought mine in america, on amazon, and sent it to me.

It took 5 minutes to learn how to ride it, and an hour or so before I was proficient enough to use the red key (faster)...

You might see me riding around regents park...

Hi Jez. Great another segway user! I'm in Birmingham though so its a few recharges before i make it to regents park!

I wonder if its cheaper to buy in US and import. PlanetSegway want 4698 inc VAT and 50 for delivery and a short training session.

Cheers

So that's about $7,500 and about $75 to deliver (depending on the exchange rate right now). Oh, I forgot - you are probably using Euros! Not sure about those.

I am a Brit living in the US - I will be interested to see your updates (both of you from the UK). When I think of UK paths I think narrow and paving stones. As I remember, the paving stones could be pretty uneven too.

One thing in your favor - at least there ARE paths almost everywhere back there. Here I was astounded to find so many areas just in my neighborhood without a path (sidewalk).

But when I think of downtown Manchester.... a perfect place for a Segway.

BenjiUK ... A bit of difference in the vernacular, but KonaSegway in Hawaii was asking about the price, not why they're selling the i-Series. :)

Jillmac ... last I heard (and LadyBroo is an international flight attendant), they're still using the Pound Sterling in England. 4698 quid including VAT (and training) probably isn't a bad deal at all in England, where a "proper pint" of beer costs about $5-6 US. Or more, if you're in London. :)

Ooops! Yes I forgot - no Euros there yet! I haven't been back for nearly three years.

With gas the price it is back there the Segway makes sense - only problem is the weather!

Yes we still us UKP sterling, although it seems the euro debate is starting up again.

OK to buy and import from the states inclufding shipping docs and tax would set me back about £4000 / $6466 I'd also have to convince my stateside friends in Seattle to sort it out for me.

I'd also have to send it back if soemthing went wrong.

Buying form UK costs me £4745 / $7670 inc everything so its more money, but maybe less hassle. I also get 1 year warranty and loan unit if mines away.

I don't drink, but last time I checked beer was about $4/pint here in Birmingham, but can be $15/bottle in some places. We're apparetly quite an expensive place to live in. Petrol is always a bit argument currnetly running at £0.75/litre ($1.21/litre) which I calculate to £2.80 / $4.53 per gallon.

Cheers

Benji -

As you say, your friends in seattle can buy one for you at $5,000, and then to ship it is about $150 by fedex, and then add duty and vat (call it 20% minimum), so your total, is about £4,000 UKP, as you say. You are right.. paying a bit of a premium to have UK support/backup might be a good idea. And also you'd get it sooner, and less chance of damage in transit. (fyi, Mine arrived perfectly.. and was well packed.)

You might also consider waiting til the personal series comes out, as it'll be cheaper and lighter.. but if the i-series is the one you want, then im sure planetsegway is a good idea.
