On http://www.walkinginfo.org/insight/features_articles/segway.htm there is a surprising fact. The segway can got 20 mph. Imagine that. I have been travelling at half of what the full speed is! I wish that I had heard of this sooner!

Don't you hate that? This makes their point sound better. They use this number to make peds & bikers scared of the segway. Even if you did run into a ped, the steering shaft would bounce back and cause the segway to stop. If a biker ran into a person they would plow over them.

many groups opposed to the segway ht, are also opposed to learning the metric system.

How much damage is done at top speed is still not the issue. The argument is simply that the driver is responsible for being in control and not breaking laws.

Again, 160mph capable cars are allowed in 10mph school zones. Amazing, isn't it?

wow, that's either a really old article or the person(s) who wrote it didn't do too much research... but i'm guessing it's a little of both ;)

I sent an alert to the three directors of PedBike Info organization, noting the possibly embarrassing metric error in their reporting, that the real speed was almost just half of what they were announcing. You know, I AM a supporter of pedestrians, bikes and other alternative modes... and I let the directors know that I think accuracy helps the cause.

People at the head of orgainzations are pretty good about cleaning up errors on Web sites. - or at least talking about it. It may be good to have a boilerplate email that you can send to sites and reporters who end up reporting 20 MPH.

Awhile back I sent an email to the president of the AmericaWalks group about their posting of 20 MPH. We exchanged some emails. She thought (still thinks?) that the industrial model can go 20 MPH. I suggested she check what they post with what the company is actually producing. She said she'll update it, but that they have a lot of cleanup tasks on the site and have a hard time getting to them. The site generally reflects this lag time. I know how hard it can be for volunteer orgs to get to this stuff, but a couple of emails to her from others may be helpful... ***as long as they are friendly!!! ***

**In the not too distant future we will be ALLIES with AmericaWalks. Inevitable... so might as well start off with friendly behaviour.

Take care, R.
