Has anyone tried to ride their Segway through a restaurant's drive-through to purchase food? How did the employees react? Did they have a problem with it?
Thanks.

I would not suggest it. I'm sure others have done it but you can't have it both ways.
In places that allow Segways they are considered pedestrians. Most fast food drive ups have signs saying no peds or bikes.

There were several threads about this years ago, but not much chatter recently...
Several seggers were dead set against it, and felt it was unsafe and presented segways and their operators in bad light...
I personally have done it many times, (Although not lately) and have never had any problems at all.
I also use the drive up window at my pharmacy to pickup medicines and the like on a far more regular basis, and it works out well...
I did speak with the store manager and pharmacist before doing this however, because I did not want them to be upset... They said it was entirely up to me if I glide in, or glide to the door to use their store, but I do usually leave it in the vestibule if I go in, or stay on it to the pharmacy window, if that is all I need...
The 99 steak house in town does a fair amount of food to go orders, and there is a special place that they have for the pick-up cars to park. You tell them the type of your car when you order so they are looking for the blue convertible, or the red chevy... When you arrive, they bring it out to you... It is a nice curb service....
When my wife orders, and tells them I will be arriving by segway, I get several people happy to provide fenderside service for me... All very civilized...
EDIT: I see I posted the same time as Tarkus. I happen to have a different view than he, but see his point, and do not wholly disagree. Decisions like this one have to be weighed very carefully, and are different for each restaurant and each glider...

I don't particularly disagree with you, but some people interested in semantics would be interested to know that those signs usually say "Guests on foot or bicycles will not be served in the Drive-Thru."

Douglas usually scores goals. This time he scores a root beer at the Jack In The Box in Davis CA.

This group was determined to try a Glide-Thru so I wished them good luck and watched from the sidelines. Davis is a college community and people are always pulling little pranks. The manager did step outside and ask "Can't you park and come inside or just send in one person?" The leader of the pack simply replied "No". The manager shrugged her shoulders and went back inside. :D

Same here, I did it at Eegee's here in Tucson. Probably wouldn't do it again though, I felt kind of stupid being trapped between two cars.
I also did it at Islands' take-out thing, where they deliver it to your car. When the website asked what kind of car I had, it was fun typing "Segway i2 - black". Hehe.

We did this on last year's Seg Meet in Steyr Austria on the evening group glide. Everyone went past the Drive-through window at McDonalds, just to see the face of the employee. Some even bought something.

I really did try to search the forum before posting - but the search command treats both "through" and "thru" as stopwords, which made it almost impossible.
I guess it may or may not be a good idea, but thanks for the input. I live in a fairly small town (suburb of Portland) where I'm the only Segway rider and drive-thru lines aren't usually very long. I haven't seen any of those "no peds or bikes" signs around here, although there may be some that I overlooked.

Try Googling "through OR thru site:segwaychat.com". This technique is necessary any common or short words are necessary for the search.

If you can't park it you should stop asking questions.

Have a nice day, I will see you again right?

The local McDonald's just recently decided to be open 24/7, but it's drive-thru only for the time that they didn't used to be open. If I had a hankering for a midnight snack I'd definitely use my segway :)

This is a topic that has appeared in bike forums for years. Generally most of the big chains have a policy of only serving licensed (ie insurable) vehicles at their drive-thru windows. Enforcement is spotty, except at Wendy's where it is writtten in stone. Bon appetit.

The question was whether the restaurant employees had a problem (objection) related to using a Segway at a drive-thru. The first two sentences on your list don't really even make sense to me, so I'm not sure what you are saying.
As for "Crash"... are you saying that restaurant employees are mainly bothered by people crashing their Segways into a drive-thru? That wasn't really my plan...
Site-specific Google search was a good suggestion. I already knew how to do that, but I didn't think of it for some reason.
Edit: From reading your other messages, I just realized that "Crash" is actually your nickname. So I guess restaurant employees main problem is actually with you going through the drive-thru...??

"Crash" is a good guy. Mr. Laurenzano to some, has a unique command of the english (I presume it is english, I am not too sure though) language..
Not being able to understand each and every thing he says is not uncommon. Still, I have found that what I could figure out was well worth my efforts.
If you come up with a tranlatable form of reading his posts, I encourage you doing so... and sharing it with the rest of us...

I argued with an older lady at a bank drive through, in a tie on a segway with money. She said no. I went and banged on the front door and the bank manager came to my assistance. Now I can ride it inside.
Little steps, don't forget to smile and show some tac.
Ask the questions to the bosses not the clerks, the worst they could say is no.
Have a nice day
