We have an Indy car driver (well known) who lives in our neighborhood. His kids and friends have welded together some really amazing looking bicycles. I happened to see them all hanging out together tonight with the bikes and Segged up the road to take a look (my husband was a bike racer when we lived in the UK and still cycles often).
I pointed at the boys bike as he pointed at the Segway and we both exclained "that is SO cool."
Well of course I had to give them all demos and they were thrilled to bits, very polite and very nice lads. (Please note, I did not try his bike out!!!) Mum and Dad (the race car driver) came out and I tried to get them to ride but neither one would. They agreed it was very cool and very clever, but neither one would set foot on it!
When I left each of the lads (probably all about aged 15) thanked me very much for allowing them to ride. So nice.
Then the next door neighbor's daughter (aged 21) came out and she took a demo (she was pretty good). Both her parents had ridden it often and really love it. Then her fiance turned up and tried to be very cool and nochalent. It was no big deal and yes, he would ride it if she wanted him to. It only took a second and there was that big wide smile and he was cruising the cul-de-sac in no time at all. Then the daughter wanted another ride, and then the fiance was back on it. Sooooo funny.
Tomorrow is my newspaper interview. The reporter is coming to my office at noon. I am printing out all the relevant stuff (I did e-mail it to him too) to make sure I don't forget anything.
Yesterday my son was out on the Segway for about an hour (maybe more) and when he came back to the house he announced "You're right Mum - it IS a chick magnet." Hmmmm. Apparently a MB convertible stopped and the young ladies wanted to know all about the Segway.
I know one of these days soon he is going to want to take it back home with him for a few days. He keeps resisting but the rides are becoming more and more fun for him.
