View Full Version : I bought One -- finally..

Just wanted to let the old timers know that I finally succumbed to the pressure of wanting to buy an HT and finally did. It arrives this week.
As I said (much to the consternation and derision of many on this board) on another post, I objected to the requirement for training. It was mostly a time/cost factor, but there was also the assumption that training would be dumbed down. I know from the many posts that this came across as arrogant -- and for that I apologize -- I suppose I was just plain wrong about that. I just think that for Segway to become widely accepted it needs to be available to the public in public forums, not just online -- malls, dealerships, whatever. And delivery needs to be quick.
Anyways, I bought mine through a non-traditional channel saving both time and money. I don't want to say from where, lest they get in trouble, but I will say it was not Amazon or Ebay and I was able to secure immediate delivery. But I will say that anyone who pays above retail on Ebay is not well informed. There are several other options.
I look forward to learning more about the Segway as I use it. And thanks to everyone on this board for the informed discussion, critique and ideas -- Especially FTropia.

wow-
congrats!
if you bought it from someone besides amazon / segway isn't the warranty non-transferable?

True, it is not transferrable, but the registered owner can be the "straw man" for warranty repairs. This appears to be the way most after-market sales are being consumated.

Actually, there are, right on these boards, three resellers who have been brought to our attention. I called both private owners (businesses) which have bought several for themselves, and I called the resellers I found on this chat board and through Google. I was surprised to find that delivery is quick, the price is right, and the warranty is intact (they are, after all, resellers). I really suggest that anyone thinking about purchasing a Segway consider doing it this way if the mystery wait via Amazon does not appeal.
I will also admit to calling Segway to see if they would sell to my business. I believe that they would have (even though my biz does not really need a Segway in any way), though ultimately I did not want to be dishonest in any way. So going through the reseller was the way to go.

Did the reseller not require training? I'm confused.

Like I said, I don't want to get anyone in trouble, but I ordered on March 30 and will be receiving by the end of this week. I signed my life away, as I am sure all Segway purchasers have, but beyond that I have only agreed to watch the video. They did give me a sort of oral quiz over the phone, but that was pretty basic. Since I have ridden twice, I was able to answer those intelligently. That was it.
I am curious to know when the folks who receive their Seg in early April actually ordered it from Amazon. And similarly, when is Amazon shipping if I ordered from their today. Any ideas?

Tom,
And you still don't have it? Have you been contacted for training?

One thing you will miss is the emergency stop demo if you don't attend Segway training. A partial simulation is to tilt the platform in "follow me" mode and place one foot gently on the platform (while keeping your weight and balance with the foot on the ground - do NOT shift weight onto the platform!) The HT will stick shake, flash red and beep slightly. The 10 second "get off now" warning features a louder beep.

Not exactly sure how someone could get in trouble. One purchases the a Segway not licenses it. As such you are free to use and dispose of it as you like.
Also, I ordered mine on November 19, 2002 and should get it in the next "8-10 days."
