Am I reading that right? Looks like I got mine just in time...I would have hoped the prices would start coming down with the increased sales. I guess INC's increased costs are significant as well.

4% increase in msrp. Now I WILL have to win the lottery if I want to add a gen II to my stable.

That the fuel prices increase the cost of something that doesn't need fuel. But in all seriousness, the cost of fuel trickles down to everything.

It just cost me $600 to have an engine shipped from California to Virginia. 10 years ago I could have shipped half a trailerload for the same price.
Show me something else that has only gone up 4% in the last year or so!

Food, NO
Fuel for my truck, NO
Internet connection, NO
Cell Phone Service, NO
Insurance, NO
Taxes, NO
Power and light for my home, NO
But at least we still can rely on the same great Segway dealers to service us. Well that is if you have a great Segway Dealer, and I know a couple around the country!

What has the average annual rate of inflation been over the past couple of decades, 3% or so? And now they are touting the 'core inflation rate' exclusive of food and fuel. Yeah, and I'm only 28 years old if you take out the 1970's and 1980's... Yes, there are a few products that have actually gone down in price, but they are the rare exceptions. Gasoline, electricity (here in VA), milk, and flour, just to name a few have already gone up or are going up by double digit percentage points this year. I'm just glad that Segway didn't raise their prices higher than they did. Now they need to hold their prices as long as possible. As much as I love and appreciate collectable vehicles, I don't want my Segway to become the next Delorean!

OMG, a time-traveling Segway! You wouldn't want that?
I wonder if one of the engineers around here can show me how to hook up a flux capacitor...

Back on topic of pricing - looks like Sam's Club (Walmart) is really trying to undercut the individual dealerships by selling new i2s for only $4500 [:0]here (http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=378847&pid=_Froogle&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku).
Personally, I'd prefer to spend a bit more and have a good relationship with my local dealer for service and support
<plug for vespaSeattle here :D>
...but, at $4500, that's a fair bit of savings.

...High gloss white finish...
Looks like Sam's Club is a low-marginal-sales-cost channel for the glossy white model that the dealers struggled with.

GENIUS! I fully support this endeavor!
Only problem there is getting it to go 88MPH... Hmmmm.
Anywho, I was a bit shocked to here this myself. Sure the cost of transporting cargo has risen, but they're selling a ton more than last year. SURELY they could have at least kept it the same price due to cheaper cost-to-build factors? I just think this was a big mistake... it was JUST about to start making it big with the fuel prices being what they are. 5k was hard to justify - this is nearly impossible for most.

I wonder if the Sam's Club white models have been stored for close to a year with the original batterys slowly deteorating or would they be shipped from Inc., with fresh batteries ??? Food for thought for those who might be considering them. At 100 lbs each, there are only 20 Segways to a ton, hardly enough to kick in the economies of scale.
And don't call me SURELY.

Im surprised that the Segway dealers dont complain to Segway Inc. that they can't compete with Sams with that price. Im surprised that Segway would sell them to Sams that cheap. Usually a company doesent want to under cut its dealers otherwise they might not have any dealers in the future.

You may want to search previous posts and draw your own conclusions, but my take on prior posts by dealers is that the price Sam's paid was no lower (probably the same) as that paid by dealers, but some dealers refused to even offer the white model and none were selling enough for INC to get out from a glut of inventory. Sam's price is more a reflection of their lower overhead than a lowball offer from INC. Not all dealers were happy with INC's decision, but most seemed to acknowledge that INC was caught in a bind and had to find a way to get rid of some stock.
ya know, I'm sure it's just me, but I LOVE my white i2. Goes really well with my white helmet. And my white slacks and sandals in the summer :).

No, it's not just you, my dear! I love my white one, too, even with all of its scratches, which I don't really notice.
Me too!. I really like the glossy white finish (don't know what I think of the metallic sage, yet), but the dealbreaker for me was the durability of the black one... It's more a reflection of my carelessness with keys, leaning IT onto things which may scratch it and the like.

Well, for me and the wife, it was kind of like putting stuff "up" around the house when the grandkids are over. You just have to be a little more careful--like parking the Ferrari at the far end of the parking lot away from the riff raff. ;-)
Our second machine for the wife will be Metallic Sage! She loves it!

You most likely get a pass because you live in FLA, but can you glide it after labor day?

I'm happy with my white i2 but agree that the durability of the powdercoat (my black x2) is preferable. That said, when the white paint gets all chipped up - I'll go for something more exotic like ferrari red :D
Indeed, LIFE is a fashion accessory for me :D.
