Hello all,

A few weeks ago, I had some good luck, and found a very gently used (read used once) i180 in Edmonton. I drove it in my truck down to Calgary, and have been using it ever since. If it wasn't for the gloomy weather, I'd use it more often.

Anyway, I apologize if this thread is nothing new, and that I should have done more searching on this site to find answers I'm looking for.

Basically, I'm wondering if there is a dealer in Calgary. I went to Segway.com and looked in their dealer listings. The number they have for Calgary is not in use according to the recording I hear from Telus.

Also, are there any meet-up groups here? I mainly use my segway to commute (it's about 14 kms to work through Fishcreek Provincial Park), but it would be nice to hook up with others in the area to share experiences (even if only online).

I'm sorta still paying for this thing through a credit line that I had available (I was desperate to get my feet on this thing), but once I do, I'm gonna prolly start shopping around for a brand new one. Mine is nice, but the turn control is on the left handlebar, which makes it inconvenient because sometimes, you need to steer with the right hand while opening a door with the left cause it's the only way through.

Anyway, still loving this thing. Also, in the newspaper a couple of weeks back, I saw an umbrella that you sorta wear like a backpack (no hands required to hold it). I can't find this thing now. I think I already put the paper into the recycling depot, so it's gone. Anyone hear of this? See?? All these questions... that's sorta why I wanna find a dealer here, and some more experienced gliders.

I hope to hear any feedback you all may have. And thank you in advance for the info.

Ciao,

Mike

Aloha, Mike!

"Ohana" is Hawaiian for family.

Sorry, can't help you with the dealer issue. Good luck with that. That's an amazing find, a once-used i180.

There are many cool dealers who post here and who will probably offer to help you out.

Wow, I just looked up Fish Creek Provincial Park in Wikipedia. That's a great commute!

We have a fair amount of rain in Hawaii, although it's warmer stuff than you have in Alberta. I prefer GoreTex, myself, and ski googles.

You'll notice a fair amount of resistance riding into the wind. An umbrella sprouting out of a back pack might not be much fun in the wind and might affect your stability on the platform.

If you find that umbrella pack, we want video of the blowout with the next big wind gust. ;)

It's all about the glide.

Aloha,
Roger

P.S.: Watch out for those Fish Creek cougars, eh? :)

LOL It's so funny that you responded to my first thread post Segwaiian. What I read in YOUR post actually inspired me to create a group at Social Segway as well. I called it Calgary Gliders (if anyone is interested in joining or taking it over - not very much of a social facilitator myself - please feel free).

And thank you very much for welcoming me into your Ohana, Segwaiian. Another note about the title you used for your own post is that it almost looks like an Italian phrase which (not literally translated) means "Why?". A great philisophical question, to which, the only sane answer would be "Why not?".

I appreciate your advice about the umbrella, and agree with you - a better solution would be to invest generously in special clothing that will allow for better coping in certain Alberta weather.

And so, because of that intuitive advice, you will never see a video of ME riding in the wind with such an umbrella backpack. However, if someone (perhaps who has modded their PTs to go much faster as some posts I read would suggest) would like to attempt it and then video it.

Purely for the entertainment for us all, I ask - Why not??

Cheers,

Mike

Mike,

Check out Segway Social, which Inc. just launched. It's a work in progress, but you could start the first social group in Calgary! There's a thread going on about it.

http://social.segway.com

Now, if you could just figure who it is that joins your group...

Aloha,
Roger

Welcome Mike,

I think you are talking about http://nubrella.com/ . If you try it, I think lots of people might like to hear how it works at 12 mph. Also, you should contact Sharkie and Ryan_Walters on here. They are from Calgary and know a ton about these things.

Oh, my gosh, it's Bubble Woman!! :D

I wonder what the drag (No, not that kind ;)) coefficient of a Nubrella is?

It's enough already that we're Geeks On Gliders. Imagine yourselves with Nubrella On The Brain.

Thanks, John. Mike, your reply was good for my self-esteem, but Nubrella made my day.

Aloha,
Roger
