I was breaking in a brand new i2 today and watching my average MPH climb as I zoomed around. It got me wondering what the average average is?

SO, don't go out and reset it and ride around. Just grab your infokey and tell us what your Average MPH is on it right now.

Sorry to leave out the Gen 1 folks but this one would be a little tough.

Thanx.

Your average MPH will have a tendency to go down the longer the period left between resetting it.

If you reset it this morning and did a "normal" commute it might return an average of 10 mph. If you don't reset it for a month, then average might drop down to say, 7 mph.

The reason for this is simple; time wasted is never recovered.

For instance, if you store your i2 indoors, my guess is that you power it up inside and very slowly move it outdoors, then let it idle while you lock the door behind you. That is all "wasted" time since it counts toward the average.

So to directly answer your question; my i2 Infokey currently says my average is 7.9 mph.

That's why I'm surprised yours is 7.9!! That's some fast gliding! I'm guessing most will be under 3.

I turn my i2 off when I'm not gliding, unless I'm doing the battery/Infokey conditioning drill. My average trip speed varies between 5.9 and 6.2 MPH. Too many intersections with stoplights in Honolulu to get the average up much higher.

During my 6.5 mile commute to work, I average about 10.8 MPH most days.

I haven't reset the average speed on my infokey in over 3500 miles, and it indicates 7.5 mph.

Understand that the average, able bodied person walks at about 3 mph.

I would wager a guess that most Segways are normally being ridden, on average, about 3 times as fast, with the upper limit being about 4 times.

Unless you're in such a densely crowded area where it's probably not even worth the effort to ride the Segway for an abled bodied individual, I would almost always assume faster than just 3 mph.

The whole reason to use a Segway (at least officially) is to be a sort of force multiplier. If you couldn't average faster than normal walking speed, then it really doesn't make sense at all.

Wow, you must have some long stretches where you don't have to stop for lights or traffic.

I was thinking the same thing. My glide to work would be about 10-15 minutes faster if I could average 10.8 MPH.

Before I took my first glide to work, I walked the 4.2 miles to preview my route so that there would be no surprises on my i2. I walk comfortably at 4 MPH or briskly at 5 MPH, but it took me 90 minutes to complete the walk because of intersections and traffic signals, which made my average walking speed 2.8 MPH. I easily double that average speed while gliding.

No carbon emissions, and no sweat. It's all about the glide. :)

Roger

After about 6 months on my i2 the average was around 4.5mph.

I guess I hadn't thought about how slowly these dealer demos move. I guess well over half my miles are giving new riders demos which puts me down in the 1.7 range for an average!

7.9 mi/h -- don't remember the last time I reset that. Been a long time though, since I never pay attention to my speed, just the odo.

As you know, mine is strictly for R&R. I usually reset it every glide and most times it's upper 7's to lower 8's. Right now it's 7.4 .

Gonna use it Saturday in the neighborhood to break in the engine on my new IMEX 1/5 scale dune buggy with high performance weed eater engine. I need to run at least two tanks out of it before I open it up and opened up is in excess of 45 mph. Should take about 1/2 hour per tank at 10mph.

Then I'll run it in that soccer field I showed you over in Chattahoochi River Club. Good place for POLO if there were enough folks.

I hit an 11.0 mph average for a 7.9 mile glide. Most others were in the 8-10 mph range.
