That means, "Come on in!", in Hawaiian.
Aloha to all gliders! Hope everyone had a great weekend. I went for a longish glide, a little over six miles each way, from my home near the University of Hawaii up into Nuuanu Valley, one of the greenest accessible areas of Honolulu. Partly cloudy skies, a cooling breeze, no raindrops falling on my head. :)
You notice things on a Segway that you completely miss while driving a car. I saw a Japanese tea house that you'd miss behind greenery from the road and went a couple of hundred yards off the main road to look at Chinese and Japanese Buddhist temples.
So, Segway Social goes mainstream tomorrow. I went on the beta and noticed that nobody's started a group in Honolulu, yet. So, I hereby announce the formation of Lupekau Oma'o o Hawaii (Green Gliders of Hawaii) on Segway Social!
OK, that's it. There's nothing else there except a couple of Segway-friendly restaurants that I placed on the Honolulu map.
Channelle, as Manager of Segway of Hawaii, if you want to take this and glide with it, please be my guest. The same goes to anyone else to wants to be in charge!
Aloha,
Roger

I will also be hosting in may a group glide, for all local riders and other, we will all do a 3 hour glide and we'll stop and do our own thing for lunch, not sure yet but it will be in May

Thanks for the input, Channelle.
I would think most local gliders who have their own Segways are not interested in paying for a tour.
However, I think most of us might be interested in a group glide as a fun activity.
I think that's what Segway Social is designed for, to allow Segway users to connect with each other in their own communities rather than to promote commercial activities. By getting a community's gliders together doing fun things, or perhaps service projects, we raise consciousness in the general public about the benefits of our mode of transportation.
Must be why they named it Segway Social, not Segway Tours & Sales.:D
While there might be no direct financial benefit to a dealer by getting involved, there may be downstream benefits to promoting a more public positive image in the way of an eventual increase in Segway sales.
Hmm, I guess it's another way of marketing Segways, by getting owners involved as gliding, talking billboards. Why else would Inc. throw resources at this?
Brilliant.

haha no i think you misunderstood me. I mentioned that we have a new tour because that's the one i'd like to try out as a group glide. who better then to test a new tour then experienced riders to help decide if a beginner could handle the route.
i appologize if i came off that way.

Channelle, I combined the pertinent parts of your two posts below, with my comments in red.
"oh! also we will have a new tour soon. Segway glide and Hike. 4 1/2 hour tour through waikiki, park at the base of diamondhead hike up and down, once finished have a picknick lunch, then glide ocean side enjoying the breath taking views."
Is this the "new tour" that you want to test as a group glide, using the local Segway community?
Now, if you're using experienced local gliders as a focus/test group, so to speak, for a potential new tour, are you going to charge us to be your test group?
"I will also be hosting in may a group glide, for all local riders and other, we will all do a 3 hour glide and we'll stop and do our own thing for lunch, not sure yet but it will be in May"
This is what may be confusing from your first post. You're clearly describing two different activities, the new tour and "also" this May group glide. Is it fair to assume that local gliders who participate will not be charged a tour fee for either activity?
"...i think you misunderstood me. I mentioned that we have a new tour because that's the one i'd like to try out as a group glide. who better then to test a new tour then experienced riders to help decide if a beginner could handle the route."
Again, please reconcile the above statement from your second post with what you presented in your first post.
I'm not trying to be contentious, I'm just trying to be clear about what your plans are.
I doubt that many owners who join Segway Social envision it as a site on which we'll be pitched a commercial product or tour, since dealers have their own sites on which to do business.
Aloha,
Roger

Aloha everyone,
Maybe with the creation of SegwaySocial we will finally be able to get an active SEG, (Segway Enthusiasts Group), going in Hawaii. I've been trying for years and was never able to get information from any source to help me find local Segway owners. At least this way some will be able to opt in if they are interested. Still a list from Inc., or at least a way to contact local owners through Segway Inc. if they have privacy concerns would greatly help in jump starting a group. I talked with Mr. Rice of Segway of Hawaii a long, long time ago and he said he would love to participate any way he could. That makes it easy to let new owners know but still doesn't provide a solution for contacting existing owners. Channelle I don't think I've met you before but nice to meet you. Roger thanks for taking the initiative and creating a group on SegwaySocial. I was about to but searched and was amazed to see that one already had been made. I have held on to; http://seghawaii.org/ and http://seghawaii.com/ for years now but have not done anything with them hoping to use them for a group. I also have a personal Segway site; http://alohasegway.com/ but I have not updated it in a long time. After meeting Brooster at the very first SegFest in Chicago, and Sam, http://konasegway.com/ through SegwayChat, we all met up on Maui for the first unofficial Hawaii SegFest years ago. Even though it was just getting together without our Segways we had a great time. I look forward to being able to be a part of a local SEG. I've been dreaming about it for years.
Aloha,
Randy

Hi, Randy!
Thanks for the compliment. I'm not tied to keeping the group name that I picked. I haven't consulted with my Hawaiian language expert to see if it's grammatically correct, anyway. I did take a peek at your website. The names you're holding are certainly easier for Segway Tourists to deal with when they come to Hawaii.
It would be great to get a core of us organized into a sustainable SEG. I've seen at least three different gliders between Alapai and Punchbowl streets during my commutes, but they were either too far away or I was in too much of a hurry to speak with any of them. None of them were Channelle or Serrow, and Glenn O is in Waianae, so we're definitely around.
I'm hoping Segway of Hawaii and Channelle will run with this (Hint! ;)), since Inc. seems to want dealers involved. Maybe we can piggyback onto the dealer's web site or else come up with a way to either help maintain alohasegway.com or start up on one of your seghawaii URLs.
I'll post a message on Lupekau O'mao o Hawaii!
Aloha,
Roger
