I'm currently on the fence, trying to decide if I should buy a new Segway. I'm strongly considering the x2, but was curious if there are any clubs or groups in the Saint Louis or Missouri area. If I knew there would be people to ride with, I think it would make my mind up.

Anyone out there?

Check with Segway of St. Louis (aka Extreme Toy Store). They would know and could link you up with others in the area.

Cyalume,
Welcome. As a former St. Louis resident, I was just wondering in what area you plan to ride the X2. Do you own or have access to some open land?

I have access to trails, which includes some property in sullivan, which I plan to ride on, back and forth to lakes, as far as offroad travel. Plus, I've thought about taking it, when I go to campgrounds.

Otherwise, I'd just get an i2, but I don't want to feel limited, on the terrain.

Awesome!

Are you part of that lake developement thing in Sullivan? My brother in law has a place there. Sounds pretty fun!

We will talk to you soon!

Sounds like you have some great places to use it. As long as you are aware of INC's position re the X-series not being appropriate for sidewalk usage, and the fact that they will likely suggest such wording for any legislation that might be authored (as they did in CA). Since there has been so much bickering in St. Louis about Segways, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see legislation put forth in the MO legislature.

What bickering John? There was one goofy issue that we handily defeated. Is there something going on I need to know about?

Is there something going on I need to know about?Nothing else I'm privy to. I just wouldn't be surprised to see that lady (or other Segway fear-monger) try again, perhaps through the state legislature. And INC is constantly lobbying for EPAMD legislation in all states.

Thanks for your concern.

Missouri already has a good EPAMD law.

The lady is a local legistature not a state one. In our current times of high gas prices and global warming concerns, plus Segways continual gains in acceptance, I think you will see less of this.

But I have been wrong before:-)

We certainly will continue to moniter and take action when ever needed!

Is this a big erroneous story? http://southsidejournal.stltoday.com/articles/2008/04/02/news/sj2tn20080401-0402ssj-segway0.ii1.txt

The reporter is only reporting what alderwoman Krewson is saying. Her interpretation of the city Scooter Law is inaccurate. The mayor's office knows this, the police officers know this, and virtually every attorney on the planet knows this.

Interestingly the St. Louis City Police Department is controlled by the state of Missouri and not by the city of St. Louis. This dates back to the Civil War when Missouri was split right down the middle between the northern sympathizers and the Southern sympathizers.

Segway use in St. Louis and in Missouri for that matter is not now nor has it ever been in jeopardy. There's just too much common sense here. It's a rare commodity but it still for the most part exists here.

Now I'm interested, why would you say that, I not only read the article I was at every Aldermanic meeting and know all the reporters, those from the big paper and those from this little paper.

Have you ever read a news article that you had first hand involvement with that was 100% accurate?

This guy means well and kind of helped us out by allerting us to what was going on but he wasn't even at the last meeting.
