An friend of mine called to let me know that Segways were avalable for rent at the Las Vegas Convention Center for the World of Concrete Expo this past week. I hope this catches on. If you ever attended that event you would know the size of that show as it is held several buildings.

If this was rental in order to "tour" the show, than it will be short lived. Liability alone will force the organizers to shut it down. Furthermore the Convention Center will likely also shut it down, again due to liability.
As for the guy renting them, he has a death wish as this business is fraught with danger.
I'll find out more from my brother who does lots of commercial work there.

I totally agree. I'll also be interested to know the ins and outs of this escapade.

I had much the same thoughts. Some one had been renting them in Vegas on the Strip, don't know how long. I do a small part time business and at no time do I allow people to go off on there own. The whole guided ride is a constant training affair as I state to my customers "15 minutes does not make you a good rider". The person who told me about this also stated that there were all sorts of transportation devices used there from electric scooters to the old push type. Wish I had been there to ask the questions you pose. And yes they were mostly all rental units.

Just wondering how Segway Friendly the strip and the hotels are... I will be down there for a convention (MINI Owners) in March at the Palace Station and was wondering whether it would be worth it to bring my Segway.
Thanks!

I took ol' red back in November. Not a single problem. I do have a disability plaque on the front of mine.

My understanding is that Segways are banned on the Strip and in the surrounding hotels/casinos, unless you have a qualifying disability.
If you are using it as a mobility device (with a qualifying disability), you shouldn't have a problem. Having a placard in place on the Segway takes care of most issues/questions before they arise. Having ADA info. at the ready is also a good idea if you encounter the uninformed security person or hotel/casino staff member.

Been there, seen that. Those ignorant casino staff put up a hell of a fight too. Be prepared to argue for at least a half hour to prevail.
If you know which casino you plan to spend most of your time, you might contact them in advance and get the name of a high level decision maker who's name you can toss around to speed things up.

Jimmy et al,
I checked. The Las Vegas Convention Center does NOT allow the individual rental or usage of Segways within their premises. Mobility Impaired usage is allowed but they do ask that you notify them so they can ensure you are not hindered by their staff (I got the impression they gave you some sort of pass to show the guards, etc).
Still a no-go in LV.
