Bill's going to be home all week, we're repairing some stuff around the house, putting on some new paint and staging it... before officially listing it this weekend with Bill's employer's preferred realtor. Ultimately, of course, it's all going to be useless - our neighbor's home was on the market for six months before she finally just let the listing expire. Real Estate just isn't moving right now. We're lucky, though, in that Bill's employer, as part of the relocation package, has agreed to buy the house if it doesn't sell in 30 days.

Anyway, he needed some stuff, so I jumped on Gilligan and glode three miles to a certain store, entered, picked up the stuff he needed, went through check-out and paid, left the store, glode back to my starting point, but went an additional 2 miles east to Home Depot to pick up a few other items the first store didn't have, then glode home.

Later in the afternoon, my dealer called to confirm our Lithium order (should be here within two weeks - ten business days). Since our dealer is also the dealer providing the Security Team Segways for the Super Bowl, I put him in contact with Carrie Waters, the reporter who did a piece on me, Barnes and Noble, and Segs 4 Vets in the "Arizona Republic." When I told my dealer of the store I had gone to, he was surprised; he'd been told this store's policy was to ask the glider to leave their Segway with store security, and to utilize one of the store's electric scooters in the store. I told Brian the only comments I had gotten from store employees were: "Cool," "that looks like fun," and "I've gotta get me one of those."

The store? Wal-Mart Supercenter, 7975 W. Peoria Avenue, Peoria, AZ.

Has Wal-Mart been blocking Seg use in their stores? I'd never been in one before with Gilligan (hell, I think I've only been in a Wal-Mart twice, anyway, in my life).

Only up until recently...I hear a certain competitor of Wal-Mart made a bulk purchase of segways to be used by their security. Maybe that somehow got Walmart to look at the issues again, eh?

Who is this competitor? Are you speaking of Target?

but in September I was looking at stuff with my Segway, and was told by an employee that his manager told him to tell me that my Segway would not be allowed in the store again.

I informed him of the ADA and that the Segway was used as a mobility device, pointed out the Utah Parking Permit placard and the employee said oh that was different.

I haven't been there since mid November, but was not bothered by anyone since the September.

So I am not aware of a ban in Walmart.... I go into Home Depot and Deseret Industries (Utah form of Goodwill retail store).

Safe gliding to all and to all a good night...

I don't think there was a corporate policy but my family has seen a Segway in a Walmart more than once (same Segway, multiple sightings).

Yes, Target bought (or is buying) in bulk for their outside security use.

Desert Industries - The LDS Church "helping your neighbor" program. Works great and some parts of it need to be emulated!

Neat! I saw one of these places around town, and I always wondered about it. As it turns out my current employer is emulating what they do (but with a focus on disabled folks), and it's been growing and going strong for well over a decade. All non-profit, of course.
