I have found that since I have been a member of this forum, and since I purchased my segways, I have become much more knowledgeable of how batteries are recharged, and their proper management and care...

In the early days of more limited distance available with NiMH batteries, and the fear of running out of power before I was ready to get off the seg, we did all sorts of things to tune and maintain our batteries...

Clearly reconditioning, but also temperature management, and understanding their duty cycles as well...

This morning I was brushing my teeth with my liIon batteried toothbrush, and I realized that since I have been educated as to the better practices with charging my segway, I have had far fewer unexepected failures with that toothbrush, my razor, my camera, and even my electric drill...

Last evening, I repacked the batteries on my 18 volt drill.

I surely could have gotten this awareness in other places, but I got it here. I doubt that I would have thought to repack the battery of that drill, had it not been a topic on this forum.

I wonder what other areas of our lives have had some positive spill over from our associations with the segway and this forum?

I like to think of the advanced technology of the batteries with respect to their enabling longer and more frequent use of the machine. Because of the Li-ions' greater capacity, I have far less attention on the batteries than I had on the NiMHs.

The main positive spill-over for me is an enhanced sense of "neighborhood".

My most frequent errand is going to the nearby grocery store which is eight blocks away--way too close to drive, yet too far to walk--perfect task for the Segway PT. This means we can typically shop for the next meal, letting the store worry about the freshness of the goods, not overloading the refrigerator, and having far less waste due to spoilage.

Other "ports of call" on local gliding runs are: bank, UPS store for mail, cleaners, health food store, and a few restaurants (for take out meals).

This all gets me out frequently on a daily basis. I enjoy the frequent contacts with friends and acquaintances, as well as with total strangers.

The streetscaping of our downtown is finished. Two of its four lanes were replaced with wider paver-paved walkways, benches, and planters. Condo construction is well underway, downtown public marina construction plans have been approved, more new businesses are opening, and I'm getting reports from people of two other Segway sightings.

I'm just really enjoying the sound of the gentle whine of my motors as so much more pleasant than all the frantic auto motor traffic that used to choke downtown.

Exactly.
You know your limits and the outer ones, you just apply measures. my fav is the broken car switch. When you can do that with one, it feels damn good.
Im on my second set MB NiMH, with a four mile on the charge, just in case.
I gotta go my dog just chewed up my toothbrush, my ipod and my phone. god only knows.

Would that be "assault with a battery?"

"Segway ownership and this forum good for your teeth and hair follicles"

Gee, I saw that heading and immediately assumed that this forum was good for your teeth and hair follicles because the things being said in this forum made one grind their teeth, or have their hair stand on end, thus exercising the follicles.

Guess I was wrong.

Only if you seasoned it first and then it would be "a salt and battery" :D
