Just to check with all of you all, is it true that Amazon.com only accepts order within US states. They have this statement on the web

Shipping: Currently, item can be shipped only within the U.S.
ASIN: B00007EPJ6
Shipping charge: Segway will charge you $99 for standard ground shipping in all states other than Alaska and Hawaii. Segway will charge you $150 for shipments to Alaska and Hawaii.

By the way, if I'm ordering from outside the states, how is the delivery going to be.

Thanks

what they say is what they mean. They want you to be trained prior to delivery, they want to be able to reasonably service what they sell. While they hope to crank up a worldwide distribution asap they also want controlled sustainable growth. Part of growing a company is being "close" to your customer. They can't do everything immediately. Patience.

Hi Dan,

Fred's absolutely right. The current sale is for the US only.

You may be able to get it delivered to a friend's house here in the states, alaska or hawaii, but you will need to come over for training and then you will need to transport back to your home, if you live anywhere else.

True. Where there's a will there's a way, I suppose. :)

As Pam noted, the required training is an important part of the process of acquiring a Segway HT, and you'd have to come to the States for that.

Brooster, don't you mean, when there's a will there's a SEGway? :-)

This is all that you have to do -

1) Contact someone - a mailboxes etc for example, who will accept delivery of your Segway and forward it to you at an international address - you'll pay a lot extra, but it's all relative.
2) Contact someone - anyone, who will attend your training for you. After all they have no clue if the person buying the machine (I find it odd that they call it that) is the person who will ever use it, such as people who run businesses who want their employees using one in a warehouse.
3) Order the Segway on Amazon.
4) The person attends your training, the unit is shipped, you're gliding.

Yo Ben,

I was thinking about sending some rocket propellant to Iraq. Any suggestions?

Actually, you have figured out a reasonable work around. So when they have to start showing their ID's to be trained, this is the tread that made that happen.

The sun came out here in LA and I went on a 2 hour glide...my range goes way up when I do a slow glide. Ben, rephrasing the Money magazine article...it's addictive and you feel about halve your age.

Happy gliding,

Fred

What's the deal with so many Segways listed on eBay? Some are selling below cost. Curious....

pt

most of the segways on ebay are scams or pyramid-like schemes. and the ones that might not be, do not state that the warranty is non-transferable to another owner.

cheers,
pt

Hi Dan,

I have the same problem you have, but I will solve it this way.

In July we will go to our annual vacation travel and I plan to stay two weeks in a city with Segway scheduled training sessions (Orlando). I will schedule my training session for the very next day that we arrive and the shipping address will be the hotel address. This way I expect to attend the training session any given sunday and past the next 12 days at Orlando's multiple attractions. When DHL delivers my HT the hotel front desk can receive it. I plan also to rent a minivan (not a car!) so I can carry my HT to the airport. I just hope that will not be war by July! ;)

Has anyone have any ideas on how many training centres in the states now? Is there a training schedule program available to look at? Will glad if someone can post the details.

thanks

Dan

Hey Dan and others thinking of skipping training - probably not a good idea. After you are on the Segway for 10 to 20 minutes it starts to feel like magic. Without proper training and indoctrination you could end up seriously hurt. A Segway does not suspend the laws of gravity. Going too quickly from the black key to the red key could easily lead you into toppling the Segway and cause scapes and bruises or worse. Watching others getting trained, asking questions and then riding their Segways is very instructive and helps the learning process. I have also noticed in doing demos that people who know about the Segway and have seriously thought about getting one adjust smoothly into riding the Segway. People just learning about the Segway buck more and are uncomfortable the first time they ride. Hey pt I thought you would offer some cautionary remarks to those who are thinking about skipping training. Lincoln [8D]

Thanks for all your comments and recomendation, I just have to said your are lucky enough to be able to attend the trainning and buy one of the HT product. While I am staying almost half the world away from your States, I can only have to wait and admire what you all are doing now and collect some information that's all. Hope one day I can post some new stories of mine if I have it on our country.
Thanks everyone

I have recently received my Segway in Trondheim, Norway. I ordered the Segway delivered to my remailing (mailbox) adress in NJ. It took about 7 days by air all the way to Norway. I used www.magnum.no, they deliver to Norway and Sweden.

I paid about $ 400 for the freight og the Segway + national taxes.

I had to get help from someone to attend to the training. According to Segway, that was no problem. I faxed over a copy of the reservaton and a written designation to the person attending training on behalf of me.

The only issue to resolve for use in Europe is to change the charging cable. Is is an ordinary power cable used for most computers.

Daghe? Whoa - this is groundbreaking - you are officially the first consumer in Europe with a Segway. How does it feel?

Whoa again. Are you also the first buyer not required to attend official training?

Hey daghe, how do you complete the import procedures without an invoice with the amount the HT costs? For instance, I suppose that the national taxes are taken as a percentage, but what is the base amount? I know that Segway are shipping the HT's without a single printed paper with the amount you paid for it.

Thank you Pam, but plan in advance all the details related to this travel was a real nightmare! In fact, Segway had not confirmed my training session date until now because they had just planned training upto May, but I am waiting an adequate response from Pam (by Segway)!

According to Segway, anyone can attend training on behalf of the buyer. They have no way to confirm that the buyer is user anyway. For example - if some bigwigs from a company located in the states but based overseas buy Segways, they can lie and say it's for their employees in their warehouse and the employees attend the training. But then the units are shipped to Austria for these guys to enjoy at home. That's just one hypothetical scenario, but one that just can't be controlled. Asking for IDs wouldn't mean anything, since the buyer assigns someone to do their training for them.

They may as well be honest and say, "hey, I need someone to attend the training for me - and they'll give me a report on what to watch for when the Segway arrives".

The other thing is that after 7/31, there will only be training in NH and CA for those who pay to attend it, correct? It was intended for early adopters only, I thought. There are helpful things about practicing with the trainers, but they really are covered in the video. People who don't listen to the video are also people who may not pay attention during the training.

The training was great, the people were awesome, and it was definitely informative and enjoyable. But I think most of it was pretty logical or explained beforehand on the video.

National taxes: The national sales taxes VAT was based on a self declaratuon, eg. the Amazon price+freight. Without a invoice from Segway, the NJ state taxes was not deductable. So my HT is really double taxed. Anyway, I regard that's the price of being an early adopter.

Training: I believe training is mostly recommended by the legal department of Segway. As long every customer receives an appropriate training from Segway, Segway will be free from any product liability. If another person is designated in writion by purchaser, this would no longer be a legal problem.

The feeling: First it was a kind of mixed feelings, as the clam-bolt for the handlebars were missing. Segway support told me that was no problem, as they only use metric parts. A 5*50mm bolt was aquired from the local hardwarestore for about $1 and the problem was fixed.

Anyway, It's good to be the first in Norway, and probably one of the first in Europe. It's big fun riding, allthough I have experienced some surprises when riding in snow, ice and gravel.

Congratulations of receiving your Segway HT in Norway.

I am sorry to hear that your bolt was missing. It seems that a few of them have fallen out in shipping, including mine. Luckily mine was hiding in the corner of the box. But with the open holes for the handles, it would be easy for the bolt to fall out of the box. Have you checked under the bottom flaps of the box for your bolt, though.

Since you did not have the official training yourself, make sure you have watched the video (did you get the Segway safety video?) and read the entire user guides several times. You cannot be too knowledgeable or too safe.
