I just visited www.segway.com I noticed the page for "Segway PT software upgrade registration". In the Drop Down Box, the i2 is also listed. I thought the recall for software updates only applied to units prior to the release of the i2. Since this page also accommodates the i2, I was wondering if any one has had a software upgrade on their i2 and what it is meant to correct.

The x2s were shipped after the recall, so they don't make the dropdown list.
i2 announcement: August 14th in newsletter #14 (http://www.segway.com/about-segway/media-center/newsletters/general_014.html)
Recall announcement (http://www.segway.com/support/recalls.php): Sept. 14, 2006
x2 "line" was released with the i2 on Aug. 14th, but no shipments occurred until several weeks past the recall announcement date. Delay attributed to vendors not being able to furnish all the components in quantity by the Aug 14 official release date, and re-flashing any x2s prepped to ship before the recall. x2s finally made it out to many dealers by mid-November.
Pretty much all the i2s got upgraded. Segway, Inc. made a fairly big effort to make the upgrades as available as possible. However, the i2s had to be shipped to a service center and couldn't be done at the dealerships like the gen1s could. So I guess there could be one or two out there that still have not been upgraded.
As far as anyone knows, the original i2 release had the same symptom as the gen1, which we were asked not to discuss (in this public forum) the particular details of, since it would supposedly encourage miscreants to intentionally induce the problem behavior. If I recall correctly, it was a fairly unusual sequence of events, and it would be very unlikely to occur to the vast majority of users to even attempt such a sequence during normal operations.

After all the upgrade happened within a month of the product rollout.
Segway of Annapolis took all of its pre upgrade I-2's up to the mothership that week for a the upgrade, so that customers who just spent $5K on the latest and greatest - did so indeed have it.

... Pretty much all the i2s got upgraded. ...
That's true only if you lived in North America and possibly close to the EU Service Center. I know of plenty of i2 sold pre-recall that still aren't upgraded, primarly due to the cost of shipping to and from INC (about $450 each way) plus the cost of reimporting the item (add another $200 or so).
