Okay, pt, I know you're from Seattle, and you guys are weird in that way... ;) But I tried gliding in the rain, and didn't like it too much.

The glide was fine -- the Segway performed admirably, and rolled through the small rivers and handled the wet sidewalk with aplomb.

But I really don't like this getting wet business... Us Angeleno's don't take to water too well. :)

One thing I did want to mention to everyone -- if your HT has water on it, don't track it into a store. (I mean, don't even power-assist it into the store. I would never glide in the store.) You end up dripping a lot of "cling-on" water, and that's not nice to other patrons. I made that mistake today.

I suppose you can also carry a towel with you to wipe off the HT before bringing it in...

You are braver than me toybuilder!

It's absolutely tipping it down today in S. Orange County. The creek bed is a torrent. Haven't seen it so full since El Nino! Sad really - it's a BIG weekend at the Mission and all the merchants who had stalls there must be getting soaked.

As far as Segging in this - forget it! This is why I left the UK - just too much rain (the UK is on the same latitude as Seattle).

pt and other north of here - I take my hat off to you.

I'll take rain over sub-artic temperatures.. blizzards.. sleet and hail!

This winter needs to end!

On a positive note, it's really nice out this weekend here in NYC. HOWEVER - I left my Seg at the office :( !!! I can't catch a break..

The rain doesn't bother me. Electrical storms bother me. I find the rain... interesting. <G> Have to take my glasses off, though, because they don't make windshield wipers for glasses.

The beauty of Seattle rain is that it almost always falls relatively lightly. Most cities in the country have more inches of rainfall in a year. In your city it rains and gets it over with. We gently washed Seattleites know that most times it won't stop for days--sometimes weeks. But you learn to love it. The rain washed streets are among the cleanest and sweet smelling you can imagine. The rain also provides us with water generated electric power which is about the cheapest in the nation. None of that secondary pollution for us HT users.

And most years everything stays a beautiful emerald green. Best outside of Ireland.

Perhaps this will help you appreciate why you can glide here in the rain.

Yup the weather in SoCal is definitely not conducive to segging today. This is the first day since I took delivery of my Seg on 3/3/3 that I have not segged anywhere. I guess I need to fire it up and seg around the house so I don't break my streak!...Obviously no beach or sunset pictures today ;)

I took a 15 minute glide in the rain today, just to check it out. I appreciated gliding over puddles I would have to step in.

But it was just a bit too cold and wet for enjoyment. Perhaps a nice summer rain.

Don't buy all this talk about Seattle not being bad. It sucks! I lived there for 25 years, so I'm entitled to say that. I've been here in Celebration, FL for about a year now, and I definitely don't miss the Seattle cold, gloom, and drizzle. I much prefer the awesome summer thunderstorms we have here (although they're a bit too strong for segging at times).

Wow, there's strong censorship on here, that wasn't even a bad word that got blocked!

What word was it? Was it when the vacuum cleaner sucks?

As a definite geek, and as such, carrying some $ electronic equipment, I was wondering. PT particularly, what do you guys recommend as raingear?

Considering I'm in Miami, none of the usual Gore-Tex Mountain Hardwear or other gear will work. I was thinking something along the lines of just a normal rainslicker or a Gore-Tex trenchcoat, but I'd like to hear the word from the front lines. What's the recommendation?

i have a kenneth cole raincoat-ish coat, nothing that high tech-- works great. my backpack is waterproof, so the gear stays dry. florida rain is different than seattle rain, so you might need to look at what the cyclists in your area are wearing. if it's really raining a hat is needed to block the drops.

I actually have a cheap poncho that has a hood and only side openings. I put the hood on under my helmet, the front of the poncho I drape over my bag in front. That way I don't put any pressure on it and can lean back to stop with no problem. (I was trying to hold onto my poncho and the handlebars to keep my arms dry and discovered I couldn't lean back. Uh-oh...)

Well we got 3 inches in one day yesterday (maybe more). Consistent, heavy rainfall all day long.

I don't really own winter/rain wear - my closest nod to either is two pairs of black Ugg boots (suitably waterproofed for wet grass type situations).

I missed getting out on the Segway, and today looks to be wet also, so I am going to have to park the cars outside and play in the garage!

Admittedly I am a wuss where it comes to rain - but that's one of the reasons I prefer S.California to the UK!

Cosmo - any rain pictures???? You have to document the good with the bad.

Forget this talk about rain - what am I going to do about the heat in phoenix?! :)

I want little holes in the handlebars that spew copious amounts of ice-cold air. :)

Actually I don't mind it, as long as it doesn't get above 105 with more than 7% humidity... then it starts feeling hot!

Well helloooooo segwayJ-

I could even possibly agree with you but, would you believe it, it's the humidity that gets me. Not rain. It's that 85 degree day with 80% humidity. I don't know beans about Florida but my cousin in the Navy said where he was your uniform got soaking wet just walking.

pam--I'll believe you (sucker for a pretty girl) so clue me in. I'm afraid traitor segwayJ has been brainwashed. Besides a windstorm here is 40 miles an hour.[^];)

Sorry to be so long getting back to you 2totango.... Celebration is located almost 8 hours from me, so he gets a slightly different weather. It's close to Orlando, and my brother and his family there can go to bed at night with just the ceiling fan going most all year long. The humidity here where I am is lots higher, I think. But they do get bad thunderstorms down there - think back to the fires they had from lightening in the last couple of years. But those storms are usually quick and done. Heck, this is the first time in ages that we in NW Florida haven't had a drought!

I do love the rain, though. I wouldn't mind living in Seattle.

Oh, I've been thinking about it - I have other friends up in the NW, and would love to put my Segway (and maybe my 2 cats) in my car and come for an extended vacation <G>. Thanks for the offer - if it comes to fruition, I'll take you up on it!
