So i'm becomiing more confident with my seg. Now i need some input on going into stores and restaurants with it. What do u typically say that's short, non-confrontational, and polite (as u can see- i have been catching on to this group of cowboys!)... and what if they say to use one of their electric scooters?? (which i hate, and is why i bought a segway!) thanks-i

Assuming that your disability is not obvious, display a handicap placard. If someone inquires, you should state that you have a disability that is covered under the ADA. That should be all that is necessary. Please we don't want/need any non-disabled individuals trying to say they are disabled when they aren"t. Those actions have awful consequences for those with legitimate disabilities.

I do as Fred said. I post a placard because it just eliminates some of the questions.

I am fortune enough to be able to walk short distances so in some restaurants I'll ask where "I could tie up my horse" while we eat. There is almost always a safe place.

Even with handicapped placard, since I don't "look handicapped," I was getting rude questions, bordering on the obnoxious.

Now I just say: "If you have any problems, please see the store manager." And from that point on, I simply do not acknowledge them.

OH, the general public.....pay them no attention.
I understand your situation as I look good but function poorly !

Fred's got it; I did just that a few weeks ago when a store manager tried to stop me. He didn't even see the placard until I mentioned the Seg was covered under the ADA, boy did his eyes bug out. Get you some DRAFT cards too, it gives them something to read.
