My nine (9)year old son is as excited about receiving the Segway HT as I am. However, it seemed simple enough to master at the training. However, have any owners been successful letting their children ride. I would like any thoughts, comments or experience's. Please advise. Obviously, I would be right their with him.

16 years old seems to be the age that segway (and others and state laws) suggest. it's up to each parent to make choices for their kids. i personally do not let kids ride, i wouldn't say the ht is simple to master, but it is simple to master the very basics though. um-- i think it'll be hard to keep the kiddo off of the ht, so i'm not sure you have a choice :-]

Recommended minimum weight is 100 lbs. I had a 12 y o who weighs only 80 lbs do great. Everyone is worried about liability with this new gadget. Your insurance won't cover you for anyone under 16. That's the rub.
Happy gliding,
Fred
In Florida, those under 16 have to wear helmets. He would probably be more comfortable on a "p" when it comes out. That's my only thought.

I let my 11 son and 14 year old daughter ride my Segway, but only in the house on the black key. They do just fine on it and I just keep one eye on them as they cruise around the living room, foyer and dining room.
I brought my Segway to a Cub Scout den meeting last night and let all eleven of the 5th graders ride. I never let go of the control shaft and warned the kids not to fool around. They were all well behaved and had a great time.
After the meeting, I let my son ride the Segway from the building along the sidewalk to the car. He was thrilled. He understands that this is _MY_ expensive and potentially dangerous machine and he will respect my decisions (without question) about when, where and how he can ride it. I made this clear to both kids before I even opened the box - never, ever touch the Segway without my permission and me being there.
