This thread is for Segway sightings in movies.
It looks like the first movie will be "Agent Cody Banks":

"The real star for young audiences will probably be the Segway Human Transporters — those things that look like old-fashioned lawnmowers with a place to stand — that the agents use to buzz around headquarters."

This film is for pre-teens and teens, not particularly the proper demographics for the Segway. It's also getting pretty bad reviews although it should do well because the stars are well-known to kids. I would hope Segway will place their product in better films in the future.

Gosh, the one review I saw on TV was pretty good... given the audience it was for - the reviewer didn't even attempt to review it with adult "standards" in mind. I'm going to go see it, today. It's on my "agenda" <G>. I'll let you know.

Enjoy the film. Most reviewers say it is a second-rate "Spy Kids". To each his own. Again, it is indeed aimed at kids and again the reason for my post was that the Segway is not for children. Kids doing "wheelies" on sidewalks, etc. is a sure way to have the Segway banned everywhere.
So how do you do a wheelie on a Segway?

I agree, I think the best coming out venue for the Segway would have been: Minority Report (http://www.minorityreport.com)

Well, I posted a separate review - thought it might get lost here, Cosmo. pkradd was a bit premature to judge without seeing the show, I think. It was good. I didn't see spykids, so I can't compare, but for itself, within it's own genre, I thought it was pretty good. There were some very funny moments in it, I thought. Didn't expect it to have the most highly developed characters, and it didn't. There were an amazing number of unaccompanied adults and couples for the number of kids. I think a lot of the humor would have gone over the small kiddos heads. I wouldn't have seen Minority Report, so I'm glad they were in this show. There were a number of very gadgety kinds of things, include a single-person helicopter that you stand on, and the propellers are contained within a round baffle, and the baffle/propellers can be angled at different angles to move you in different directions. One of the funniest scenes was where all the different people were trying to give him advice on how to have a relationship with a girl. The guy on Saturday Night Live who used to play Clinton was the equivalent of Bond's "Q" - ... Well, it was a funny scene, I have to admit.

I saw the movie this weekend with my kids. I'm a little surprised no one mentioned that only adults ride Segways in the movie. They only use it around the CIA Headquarters in Seattle (which, since I've lived here for more than 15 years, must be very well hidden :-).

Pam,
I saw the film with my nephew. Indeed he liked it as did the other kids in the audience. However, he agreed it wasn't as good as either Spykids films. He thought the Segways were neat (I didn't tell him about them) and of course wanted one. I didn't pre-judge the film, I just indicated that it was getting poor reviews. A good place to see tons of reviews on any film is rottentomatoes.com.

Goodness, with a site name like rottentomatoes, I'd probably NOT take it too seriously <G>. As I said, I didn't see spykids, so I can't compare the movies. Could actually be two different styles within a genre, I dunno. I also saw it in an audience that had a high percentage of adults who all enjoyed it (at least they laughed in the right places <G>) so I may not have had the "traditional audience reaction."
My comment about prejudging was based on your comment about kids doing wheelies, etc, but there were no kids doing wheelies, and all the riders were adults and the units were used in a responsible fashion.
I have a feeling that Segways might be used in movies for a while to give them a "futuristic" or "technologically advanced" flavor. I thought they were used in Cody Banks to make the other "gadgets" more "realistic."

I saw the movie with my girls over the weekend. It was fun for them and for me. It was more of a James Bond knock off than a Spy Kids copy (I saw that one too -- unfortunately).
Lots of Segway sounds too.
Great Segway PR. I stayed to see all the credits (my poor kids) but not a single Segway mention -- that suprised me.

Segway doesn't recommend the HT for kids under 16 and requested that only adults use them in the movie. (My son is 8 and does just fine on ours)

Pam,
No problem. Rottentomatoes reprints hundred of movie reviews each week (or give url links to same). They are the best site for getting opinions on new movies. The name is meant to be funny since "throwing" rotten tomatoes is a long time show of dislike for a film or stage production. They rank films by "fresh" or "rotten" based on consensus of reviews. Also, my mention of "wheelies" was in jest, since kids always find a way to do things they shouldn't on bikes, skateboards, etc. People lighten up! :-)

Well, I agree that if anyone will push the envelope, it will be kids - teens in particular <G>. (Hmmmm, maybe that's why Segway recommended the 16 age limit.) Didn't realize your comment was in jest. Sorry to misunderstand.
