Welcome to the start Of a SEG in NYC,
We have no members, no set time to meet yet, no website,
and a catchy slogan

"I'm Glidin Here!, I'm Glidin Here!'

INTERESTED IN JOINING?

There's no fee to join and no obligation to participate in any activity. Our goal is to have fun with our Segways and meet interesting people. (thanks Sleepy)

Jonathan,

How "interesting" will the people be?
Will your NYC group be doing Segway fashion shows (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48rIGo3uxD4)?

;)

Not if I can help it!

The weird part of that is both Karl and I participated in that 'show'

It was weird. SO be it... It was also fun, and Jon and I did have a good time. Jon's and mine are the segways on the right end of the line, and can be identified by their lack of pink fur and nipples.

The day was not what either of us expected, but the rule still stands, if you get a bunch of seggers together, it will lead to smiles...

We can meet at the north end of Union Square Park.
2 large Labyrins are pained on the asphalt.
They are a blast of fun, lots of focus and hard turning 180's, it takes about a minute to do one. Haven't timed one yet.
Then glide, find a restaurant something new would be great.
Rain date Friday the 5th.
Thanks Jonathan.

Looks like no one is interested.
I ask myself why I bother.

If I were in NYC, I'd be there with bells on. Well, you know what I mean. :-)

But then close something down or cancel something, and everyone gets upset. Not that they were going to participate anyway!

My Health is not well.
Maybe sometime in the future we can try again

The problem with meeting in NYC is that Segways are not legal. I know some of you ride every day without problems and some have gotten tickets. Personally, I have no point to prove in NYC and don't have a handicap certification, so I am not interesting in risking tickets and possible confiscation of my machine. I don't like having to look over my shoulder and dodge the police.

I like meeting with other Segway people and enjoyed the dinner we had in the rain a few weeks ago. But, for me, the Segway is about riding and not sitting and pointing at it. Bill and I went through the trouble of bringing our two Segway's in the rain only to ride them the few hundred feet from the parking lot to the restaurant and back again. And Bill's hitch hauler got bent by the parking lot attendents and we had to improvise a solution to hold the machines in the bed of the truck to get home to NJ.

It seems counter-productive to use my car to transport my Segway and not ride it. At least if there is a good group glide, it would be worth it. Next time I come to a meeting in NYC, I will most likely not bring my Segway and just park my car in NJ, taking the Ferry and bus to the meeting.

Ideally, some time in the future, I can park in NJ, take my Segway on the ferry and glide without guilt and paranoia to my destination. This concept just makes to much sense - perhaps that is why the government is against it.

Anyone involved in government will tell you that using logic and reasonable contemplation has no place in policy making...

I saw a great TV program on Ovation, a DirecTV channel. It was called and about Night Watch, the painting by Rembrandt. Seems after it had been hung for a number of years the City Council built and moved into a new building. Naturally the intended wall reserved for Night Watch turned out to be a couple of feet too short and even shorter on the sides.

Does anyone want to guess what the City Council did to solve the problem?

Hint: two blades, each having a ring-shaped handle, that are so pivoted together that their sharp edges work one against the other (often used with "pair of").

Now, tell me again about the collective wisdom of legislative bodies....

Well . . . the NYC City Council shouldn't have original Rembrandts hanging in their council chambers anyway . . .

They apparently don't. Just pieces of one.
