Stan had asked how to mount a Garmin GPS-V to the handlebars. You can also mount a lot of different things with a little imagination.

Since there are 2 screws on the bottom of the handlebars already for the mounting bracket of the old style black bag, this was a great place to start. I needed a piece of metal to make a bracket. I found an 8" shelf bracket already painted white for $1.99 in a hardware store.

Then I cut the tabs off the back end, bent the bracket around a metal pipe, and cut it to the right length.

Then I drilled a hole in it for the Segway screw. (1/4 inch).

and attached it to the underside of the Segway handlebar.

I finished by attaching the GPS base with double-sided tape that comes with the base.

It works great, and it doesn't even get in the way of the old black bag. (I eliminated the bracket from the old black bag so I can put it on & off easily whenever.)

I'm sure you can mount tons of stuff using these one or both of these screws!

Great idea, Wayne. I will see if I can come up with something similar to fit the Garmin GPS V mount I have. I don't have the same one that you have in the pix.

wayne-

just use an image editing application and resize them before you upload them to your site.

here's a note that was posted before:

You can do just about anything to an image with IrfanView image viewer.

The simplest way to make smaller images is to change the setting on your camera. You are probably set at 640x480 or larger right now. Just change it to a smaller number, maybe about 160x120 would be good.

I was thinking today that this would be a perfect thing to use to mount a little tray. I like to segway through the drive through unit at Mr.Dave's (a local spot), but I'm always concerned that if I get - say a pound of barbeque, by the time I put the container in my front bag home, it'll have dripped out. Or even take out Chinese food - they all have those approx 8x8 containers now, not the little boxes with a handle. I could mount a plastic tray (the size of a McDonald's tray) and either bungee the styrofoam container to it, or something.... - hmm, or mount a wicker basket, or a wire basket...

How do you roll it around a tube, Wayne? Do you have a special machine to do that?

Pam, those little shelf hanger brackets are not that thick and can be easily bent around an object. Place one end of the metal bracket into a vise, place a round object the same diameter of your handle bars next to it and slowly apply pressure to it. It should bend without a whole lot of pressure. Or place a pipe the same diameter in a vise and clamp the hanger bracket to the pipe and bend it around. Either way it should be easy.

Just a quick fix...as humorous as it may sound, ever try a plastic grocery bag? It has two handles built-in and would easily fit over the handlebars. Thats one of those universal inventions much like duck tape, you can use it for most anything :)

GadgetmanKen is exactly right! I just put the bracket in a vice, put a piece of 1" pipe next to it and pushed the other end around it. Took one good steady push and a few extra little ones until it was the shape I needed. Very Easy!! (Afterwards I noticed I could have used the edge of my granite kitchen counter! It is 1" thick with a 1/2 round bullnose edge!)
