View Full Version : What would you think of a "SegVent" Segway vent mount?

When I was looking at the ventilator trays offered by Motion Concepts (http://www.motionconcepts.com/pdf/e-bulletins/vent_trays.pdf), I was thinking about a way to be able to mount a compact vent like the Pulmonetic Systems LTV (http://www.pulmonetic.com/catalog/catalog_ltv_interactive.aspx) on a Segway.
Do you think it could be possible?
Would it be better to use something like a handlebar bag (http://www.segway.com/products/images/HandlebarBags.jpg) or a hard case (http://www.segway.com/products/images/SideGiviBag.jpg) (with a hole for the vent circuit?)
Any comments?

Why would you want to do that? When gliding there's plenty of wind.

Between using a lower cargo frame and cargo plate, you could hold the main equipment.
The folks at Segvator have a lot of imagination on these type of things. Give Darth Segvator a PM and see what he can come up with.
I know of a couple of folks who use a Segway to help them with mobility, due to breathing issues.

I'm pretty sure they are talking about one of these. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ventilator

Man, when I first read the subject line I thought you might be talking about setting up a Ventrillo server for Segway Chat.
That would be hilarious.

I stand corrected and apologize for the misunderstanding.
My bad!

I set up an I2 Lower Cargo Frame and Univeral Cargo Plate on an I-167 today. This would work well for carrying most anything.
Then with that, you could add the plastic cargo carrier as well as your own add ons.

I am having problems trying to purchase a Segvator from the Long Beach store. Sounds like you may have a connection? If you can help get me to a store to purchase I would appreciate.

Last time I visited the Segway OC - Annaheim store, they had stock.

Just call and we can get you on track with the right model for what you need!

All we need to know is the number of Segways you will be hauling (can be updated later if you want to haul more than one at a future date) Plus what models you are Seg Vating!
The Make, Year and Model of your vehicle
If you have your hitch, and what size it is - the Class III hitch is required, that is the open box model, not one with a tounge and ball on it.
The amount of space from the ground to the bottom of the inside of the hitch.
And you will need an RV plug installed - go to the www.Segvator.com website and pull down the wiring info to give to your hitch installer, so you have the POWER for your Segvator!

Could you also mount a heated humidifier in line with the ventilator circuit (similar to a Fisher-Paykel unit (http://www.fphcare.com/humidification/)) onboard the Seg with a cargo carrier?

The key would be the weight of what you are carrying.
You want to equalize the weight on both sides of the Seg, otherwise you will always be steering to the one side, due to the extra weight on the one wheel. We see this a lot when the air pressure in the tires is not equal.
EMS Techs, love the Segway, because they can load up all of their gear on a Seg, and glide right to the patient.
The Segway can be set up as a real workhorse for carrying stuff. As you will see on the variety of "MODS" that are shown on this site, only your imagination is what will hold you back.

Indeed, the segway is capable of carrying much more than 260 lb.!

I would think you would mount the ventilator to a bracket over the wheel covers. The i180 had a bracket for the saddle bag that could be adopted.
Closer to the CG would allow the natural control characteristics to remain least affected.
