Life may indeed be a rare event in this vast Universe, but most of the retards in it-- live on Earth.

Its too bad morons don't have some sort of lightbulb blinking on top of their heads so you could see them coming and just stay out of their way.

Am I the only one who has seen 19,000 threads and 246,000 complaints on this forum alone about this topic, and now people are surprised to see some less than complementary comments somewhere else? Wow.
This is a frequently abusive and negative forum, and we like segways. Why would you expect a better demeaner from a site that does not?

I don't think we're surprised, as the title of this thread implies.
It's par for the course for anything regarding Segway, and that's always unfortunate.

WE are allowed to bitch and moan, because we actually USE the things
outsiders are NOT allowed, because they have never glided.
Like black people calling each other the "n" word.

I wonder what most of these idiots would answer if asked --
What would you think of a product which:
Reduces our dependence on foreign oil and thus the perceived need to involve ourselves (and our soldiers) in every Middle Eastern conflict. This further reduces the negative esteem in which we are held elsewhere in the world.
Reduces emissions into our atmosphere, helping with the global warming problem and pulmonary health -- under certain conditions it can produce zero emissions.
Significantly reduces the cost of transportation for short trips by one person.
Gets commuters to work in nice clothing without raising a sweat.
Takes an automobile off the streets lowering congestion, parking problems, and ultimately, the cost of infrastructure.
Creates no noise pollution.
Requires almost zero maintenance.
Gets people out of their house for at least mild exercise.
Solves mobility problems both indoors and out for a large number of older people without committing them to a sedentary wheelchair/scooter, and allows them to enjoy much more of the beauty of this country.
Has a purchase price 1/3 or less of a new car, requires little or no insurance, and has no registration fees.
Is limited to a speed range lower than that of a healthy pedestrian.
Has a 5-year history of nearly perfect safety record regarding injury to pedestrians in buildings, on elevators, bikepaths, and sidewalks.
Occupies essentially the same footprint as a standing person.
It can stay upright at a standstill and turn in place, unlike a bicycle.
Refills its "fuel tank" in your own house or garage.
Is fun to use! When they have no choice but to admit such a device would be wonderful, you point out to them that this is the very machine regarding which they've been so hostile. This would work well against the people fight NY legalization, since they have most of the picture 180 degrees out of alignment.
I realize some aren't looking for facts, as they are totally capable of making up their minds without them, but many people have never been exposed to the upside of a Segway -- all they ever hear is the hate mongers who love to out-hate their "competitor's" rhetoric. I'd love to see INC prod people into Thinking by getting such a message out by means other than expensive media campaigns. I think I'll start off by printing this list and handing it to the next ignoramus who asks why I ride this stupid thing (or some variant thereof). Maybe the new SegAmerica could produce cards with such a message.

These guys shouldn't be taken so seriously. Engaget is a comedy e-zine masquerading as a tech e-zine. When Segway isn't funny anymore because enough people are using them, they will find something else to write sarcastic articles about.
Ask 20 people today if they read the latest Engaget piece and they'll all probably say, "Who? Ann Gagit? Who's that?"
