with my L-ion's heading into the sunset and the possibility that this will be their summer before retirement does anyone know if the next set i purchase will have more range or power than the 2004's i own? has battery technology advanced in the last couple years for segway?
have we gone nuclear yet? :)

Without starting/spreading rumors, I'd suggest limping along as long as you can (preferably till the end of 2008) with your existing batteries. If you are forced to do something, I also want to point out that an XT can be run on NiMH. So you could buy a PAIR of used NiMH for $200, pump up your tires and get decent range.
But I do want to also add that my suggestion isn't suppose to save you money. There isn't anything cheap and exciting around the corner. Just exciting! 8^) 8^) 8^)

Well, you may not have wanted to start or spread a rumor, but I believe you just did. :D

i see ;) i like surprises as long as it does not obligate me to buy a new model.
i'm perfectly happy with the rugged look and feel of my rigid stick GEN1 XT. i ride by the leansteer cruisers at the mall with the security cops looking so wimpy standing behind those pixie stick handlebars. i really appreciate my after market ATV knobbies and my new steel handlebar guard. (not shown in this picture)
so far segway has not captured my attension with the i2 or the X2, i think they have done their best work with XT.
