Hello!

Some ppl att the goverment/traffic Department have disade to classified the segway as a EU moped,
EU mopeds go up to 45 km/h, segways 20 km/h hmm... But the thing is that u can't regester the segway to glide lagaly.
It's because it's not type classified, I was hoping they had classified it more like a electric bicycle.
U all know what Segway stand for and it creates work such as guided tours,
events, advertising, god for environment ect, and for my self im a segway courier.
the ticket for riding a segway is 500 krona = 73,53 USD,
and the chance that the police stopping me isnt that big so im gonna glide on.

Is this just a decision for Sweden? It seems perverse considering some of the other EU countries adopting a different perspective. So much for harmonisation

In Switzerland, the type classification takes place at the moment. Not sure, which type it finally will be, but what I heard is that it most probably won't be allowed on sidewalks but rather on the road or bike bath. So it is probably seen as a bike.

Bikes usually only need an insurance sticker, only if they have an electro motor with pedal assistance that enables them to go faster than 40 km/h, they need a yellow motorbike license plate. Even though the Segway only goes up to 20 km/h, it probably still will need a motorbike license plate, since it doesn't only do power assist but reaches this speed on its own.

Hopefully, the classicfication will be finished soon so we can glide legally. Even though I haven't been stopped by the police until know (kocking on wood) it still feels better if you don't have to worry about it.

Different EU countries are applying different solutions. In France, on the pavement, in Austria a sort of bike, in Germany a special category has been created so it can be 'type approved' even though the original EU opinion was that it was exempt from type approval. Approval as a sort of bicycle, I think, is also very close in Holland after extensive and very detailed tests- it included things like riding a segway through an obstacle course while having to do mental arrithmetic and other distraction activities. If these test are studied by other EU countries they will see that the Seg is safe and fits well into the transport infrastructure. Here in the UK we of course follow the Ostrich School of Governance- Stick you head in the sand and avoid thinking or making any decision at any price.

Who knows what difference Golden Brown might make? I know Wayne is now having to talk to a whole bunch of different bureaucrats. Apparently there is a lot going on behind the scenes.

I hear that Boris Johnson is going to run for Mayor of London, now there's a guy I'd like to get on my Segway.

Hej Klerkan,

Our old minister of transportation was thinking the same. The new minister is luckly a bit more open minded, but he has ordered a safety investigation, just to be on the safe side. When the investigation is finished, probably in october, he will (hopefully) decide that the segway is ok.

When the dutch investigation report is available, I can see if there is a english version, or translate the most important parts, perhaps it useful for you and the dealer in convincing the legal authorities in allowing the segway.

Florin, il hope the investigation turns out positive. Johnny att Segway Nordic is on wekation right now, but when he is back, he is gonna contact the traffic Department and hope thay can solve the problem.
Today a was gliding downtown and two younger cops looked att me misakenly like they dident know what to do :) Maby they dident know segway is ilegal, or maby just like the segway so they let me be. Anyway me and my buddy gonna try to start a petition to Legalise Segways, with help from the public and Segway owners/authorized dealers. So if u live in sweden reading this pls mail me att Klerkan@hotmail.com

Would the world collapse if all the various governments decided to classified our machines as "Segways"?

Oops, sorry. I sometimes have these totally irresponsible ideas....

Chaos...pandemonium...riots...segway polo in the streets....

Just look at http://forums.segwaychat.com/showpost.php?p=148302&postcount=12 to see just how much segways can affect world politics! Can you imagine if legislation freely allowed segways to be integrated easily into all parts of life?!
