So, I've heard a lot about Segway polo, and seen some YouTube clips of Woz, but it seems like I'm destined to remain a Segway polo virgin here in Washington, DC, "the most Segway-friendly city on earth."

What does it take to set up a Segway polo game? Team? League? How do you play? How many Segways do you need? How hard is it to play with an i2?

We need some kind of Segway Polo Ambassador... someone like Brad Pitt in Fight Club, who can go around to a bunch of different cities and set up secret Segway Polo leagues. But who, oh who, would be up to the challenge? Isn't there ANYONE on this board who is obsessed with Segway polo? Who turns every thread into a discussion about polo with his mandatory off-topic tangential comments?

Where oh where can I find such an individual??? ;)

FYI: Will Hopper is working on a SegPolo team in the DC area. If you're interested in playing, you might want to contact him.

For info on rules, teams, etc, you can check out www.segwayhtpolo.com

Some history etc here:

As I've always said, anytime anywhere. Just get me a plane ticket and I'm there!

But in lieu of that, I'd put you in Will Hopper's capable hands. If you truly do want to jump start segway polo, I'd suggest buying 10 mallets which cost $260 total shipped to your door. We have cases of balls, and I think they cost about $40 shipped.

So shelling out $300 and finding some cones will make you the polo meister of DC. Will can give you the list of potential players, and I'll bet you by the end of the month you'll be playing your first polo match! I mean, come on...you just need 5 other gliders to pull this off.

ps - You can ask around trying to get permission to play in some park, but for these first couple matches I'd suggest just asking forgiveness later if discovered. Once you have a better idea of what park is "centrally located" for all the dedicated players, then it might be worth trying to get that permission.

We are more of a parade kind of town, though I have come up with a couple of gliders who want to go out there and shoot some balls on the Polo Field.

Actually, I was talking to some of our military breathern yesterday about getting them involved, as a couple of those guys who use Segways for Mobility would love some competition and challenges on the Segway Polo Field.

Hey we even have a corporate sponsor here in the DC area, if we can get a team together.

The question I got yesterday, is... "All the guys do not have their own Segways, that is going to be a problem" I said, not at all, we have a dealer who would work to supply Segways for the Polo matches.

I am sure Segway HT Polo will be one of the topics of our DC SEG upcoming Summer Event - the 10 MPH Screening on August 21st at E Street Cinema.

You'd be surprised how many gliders get interested once they see segway polo in action. And just getting them involved in one match is usually enough to hook almost anyone.

Also having dealer support is invaluable, since they often provide a constant stream of new players. Besides it's another set of accessories that they can sell! While I've seen dealers let people borrow segways, I generally haven't seen them rent them.

ps - I haven't seen any cross over between long distance gliding and polo. But hey, if it happens, I'll be quite happy. "Dribble across America!" 8^) 8^) 8^)
