I would like to take the reigns here and organize a glide in Chicago. This past weekend I was sitting having lunch on Saturday afternoon on Ontario street when an i2 passed us by. All the tables on the sidewalk patio were talking about it.
I took the time to talk to anyone that had questions, comments, etc.
So my thought is this.. A glide for us, as well as for the community. A glide where if we see people obviously intrigued we stop and talk to them. I think it would be a great fun day for us as well as a great benefit to the entire community.
Thoughts? Who is in?
We can pick a date that will work for everyone.

are there any fellow Chicagoans, or even others from the Midwest on these forums?
Oh, yes. Fathertime, who actually owns the store in Chicago is on the forum. You might PM him or email him and see if he has any suggestions.

I live in the Wrigleyville area of Chicago.
I know Jim aka "Father Time" as well as Mike at the dealership. I have been communicating with them for some time now.

I tried writing to you twice, your email is full. Let me know of some dates and times, it would be great to get out a few times b4 winter!
Nora and I would also be interested in driving up from Indianapolis for the glide in Chi-town... PLEASE let us know, especially good if we have a couple of weeks notice to plan.
Thank you,
Sal

Hmm. Mailbox full... well you aren't the first to say that, but I just checked and I have 2GB free. Interesting. I will delete some just in case, but interesting. I will have to check my settings.
Well, I was thinking sometime in Mid September maybe. Like maybe Sep 22nd? Should be perfect temps as in not to hot or not to cold still to enjoy all that Chicago has to offer.

Yeah I checked but I only have like 11 messages or so in there and PM boxes have a 300 msg capacity.
Either way, I cleaned some out, so feel free to shoot me a note and let's get the ball rolling on this one.

We could try to make it down from Milwaukee. Only have XT's or an x2 though. Not sure how this would go over in Chicago although I haven't had any problems in Milwaukee. Let me know what you think.
Also, we would probably come down on Amtrak into Union Station, if Amtrak will transport Segway's.....does anybody know their policy?
Please advise.

Sorry I have no idea about Amtrak's rules. Maybe someone else can help. I was trying to search their site. I will continue more probing.
How is everyone with the date of Sept 22nd?

John,
I saw that via Google on the Amtrak California website but was unable to find any Segway reference on the main (national) Amtrak site.
Their stated policy on the national site is no checked baggage is to exceed 50 pouinds. So having a "SPT" (Segway Personal Transporter) checked baggage policy in California doesn't fit into their stated national policy.
I'm concerned about the Milwaukee/Chicago (Hiawatha) service right now and can only find the checked baggage weight restrictions of 50 pounds which would prohibit a Segway unless disassembled and packaged in several boxes.

Today I was in Lincoln Park watching the practice session for the annual Air & Water show. I saw one of Chicago's finest on a XT.
I want to just see if everyone is ok with the date picked of Sept 22nd? If so I can start making plans as to a meeting location, route, etc.
Thanks...

Nora and I are planning on attending on the 22nd of September, we're both looking forward to the glide, and looking more forward to meeting all who take part.

P.S. Ryan, I hope you got my PM way back informing you of our interest and that the date was okay for us.
Is this glide potentially still on? Have you received any more contacts for participation?

I am for sure gliding. I had one other contact. I put a note into Jim Reynolds to spread the word. I think he is really busy. I was planning on swinging by his shop this week to talk to him in person.
You know, people are always so last minute anyway.

Hi Ryan-
We here at Segway of Chicago would love to join in on this glide but Saturday is our busiest day and we've got one man on vacation so we are all doing double duty. We wish you a pleasant day and a smooth glide!
Kind Regards,
Jim Reynolds
I'm checking on the wife's availability... I'm tuning in on this thread to see what the turnout is.

Any bites???? Come on people, how many are going to show up? I'm still pondering it (weather and partner dependant).

JUst be on the lookout for Bob Carmody. He lives in that area.
Glide on - there probably isn't a street in downtown Chicago I have missed.
Afterthought: I think Jim Wahl lives around there somewhere also.
